Repotting Phals, should I?

I’m fairly new to orchid care and I’m not sure whether or not I should repot these new phals I have. I made the mistake of repotting one while it was blooming before because I read an article that said it was okay if it really needed it. It died about a month later.

I bought the first one about 3 weeks ago and the second 1 week ago (I got these from Raley’s for only $13!!!). It seems the roots of the first one aren’t doing as well as the second. My question is, should I let them bloom out and then repot them? Or should I cut off the blooms and repot them now?

I also agree, healthy looking roots on both to my eye.

Unless they're tippy or you want to use a different pot or the media is broken down, I'd probably leave them both be for another year.

The strings coming out the side of the pot on the first one are because at one point the roots grew through the small holes and when the roots enlarged, they got cut by the hole itself and broke. That is one of the reasons I don't like slotted or 'side-holed' pots, although the same can thing happen with holes in the bottom of pots.

I would say let them bloom out then repot them. I would repot immediately after they are done blooming.

I think the roots look pretty good actually. I agree with Taylor.

...unless you do something careless like I did and allow water to pool under the plant and you don't notice until the roots have already turned moldy and are dying, then you'll need to take immediate action for it.

Learn from my mistake and dont do that lol.
