John Deere hard starting

last modified: 8 years ago

Discription: LT155 15hp Serial #: MOL155B113122, Kohler: EV15S-41562

Purchased 2002.

Last year I was having problems starting the tractor, and since I do my own service had the dealer service the tractor. They did a "100000 mile" service.

When it was returned it started up nicely when he left the tractor in my drive. It started the first time I mowed later in the day. It would not start the next time I mowed about a week later.

The last several times I have used the tractor I can not get it to cold start. When I put a little ether in the Carb, it starts up and runs well. I can shut it off for a short time and it will start. The next week we go through the same thing.

The dealer cleaned the carburetor, and installed some new belts. It has new gas, and every things seems correct. The battery seems strong and turns the engine over, at what seem like the correct RPMS BUT it will not start cold. The battery is only about a year old. The tractor has had the JD Spring service Kit installed every year for years.

I have wonder if the 17 year old rubber gas delivery line is damaged and is allowing the gas to siphon from the carburetor but there is no evidence of leakage.

What could be the cause of this problem?
