Have the offsets bloomed yet? When you repotted , did you put it in a larger container?

IME some hippies offset a lot and some don’t, don’t know why. Which reminds me to ck on my quartering experiment

@jstropic, no, the offsets haven't bloomed yet. I don't put them into large pots, I put them into small pots and move them up in size when they outgrow the pot. One is actually still in a 6" pot, and I"m hoping it blooms this year.

@bossyvossy, I know that's true. My orange heirloom, which I believe to be H. striatum, makes dozens of bulbils and grows so easily from seed that I had them all over the yard at my old house. I love that they bloomed in the shade of my oak trees. Sadly, I left all of those behind when I moved up here to Gainesville, but I brought seeds, and now have babies that are about 2 years old and should be blooming next year. Even the 1-year old bulbs were making bulbils!

I agree with you and Bossyvossy. Some species do offset freely.

I asked about repotting because I wondered if your mother bulb could have been spending energy on developing a larger root system, rather then on creating offsets. Obviously if you repotted in the same size pot, that would not be your answer.

Why dont you harvest some seeds? Probably faster than offsetting.

If it is "really" (conspicuously) green, then one might end up with a bunch of seedlings, NONE of which will be "THAT" (in other words "really") green. We should keep in mind, that commercialized cultivars are, at least nowadays, exclusively clones, in other words vegetatively propagated offspring from a totally outstanding seedling. This principle does apply to many per-ennials and "high-bred" geophytes! The epitome of a COUNTER example is Cyclamen hybrids.
