Hello! Should I add anything else to this wall? I love gold (sunburst)

Love my living room, just need to finish it up. I’m minimal. Thanks!

Groveraxle, if I just eliminate the shelves all together, what would you do with the walls? Thanks!

Heather, here are a couple of media cabinets mostly in white. They're only about 6' long though, so you'll have to measure to see if they're long enough. I always prefer the longest cabinets a wall can accommodate--they just look better--but once you start getting up to 7 or 8', they get really pricey. If you don't limit yourself to white, you'll find more affordable options.

If you want to eliminate the shelves, you can do art, or just hang your photos directly on the walls. Consider varying the sizes and shapes of the photos and doing a gallery wall. I can help you with that if that's what you decide to do.

Your room, already very nice, is really really close to greatness. Other than a longer console, the only other thing you really need here is to get the photos (or art) balanced on the walls.

I think the art on the shelves begs for some spacing between them, which those shelves are too short to provide. Groveraxle's rendering provides that space, over the couch.

But I'd hang the art halfway between the height you currently have and the height Groveraxle depicts. No one wants to hit the art while leaning back on the sofa. And I find very low hanging art - hip level - irritating to view.

I really like this possibly on the wall?

I will apologize up front if this sounds harsh, but IMO what you need is some new furniture. You do not have the pieces you need to make that room look good So you're going to need someone with some decorating taste to help you. Do not start buying pieces on your own, you need to get someone who is into decorating to help you or you will spend money and make more mistakes. At a min you're going to need two small accent chairs (and not in a random color, but rather ones that go with your couches), a bigger coffee table, and a bigger console table for your TV (and not white, something in a dark wood). If you're going to do two couches (I'm assuming those two are the same couch ??), then they need to face each other (so you need to change the furniture configuration), and they need to be pulled in so their front feet sit on the area rug. And then you need to stop decorating with pictures. You need to decorate with art. Personal pictures are for personal spaces .... not living rooms. Those two floating shelves have to come down, they make absolutely no sense, and so does that random lantern. Do not put up star bursts. You need to buy some art.

So there you have it...opinions all over the place. You can pick from those and do what suits your tastes and budget. You have suggested several times adding a gallery wall with colored photos. I do not believe this qualifies as art that would pull the room together with color. Gallery walls and personal photos can really add to a room when the framing is interesting and scale is correct. I do not believe this belongs in a living space though. Perhaps a stairway wall, or hall or other room shared more intimately. I have a family too but feel the photos should have a special place outside of the living space. Oh and I don’t think a white console table adds anything to your room. The black is more invisible to me.

Oh goodness. I have been following but not commenting because I didn’t want to pile on the “shelves don’t work” bandwagon. I agree they don’t, but your pictures are great and could work in a gallery wall. Your furniture is nice. I wouldn’t go with a white console, personally, as I think it stands out of place. And let me say this- I have original art everywhere in my house. I don’t have many personal photos. But do you want to know where the biggest one is? My entry hall, the most public part of my house you can get. Why? Because it’s my house and I like it there, and it’s a piece of art too. I’d hate to be the person to tell the very expensive photographer it isn’t. Oh, and we entertain a lot and I get more “oh wow” comments about this one than any other individual piece I have.

Thanks! Here’s my console table and I love it! And I completely agree about the tv stand. Just built this place. Trying to get it together.

I found a blue media stand at Wayfair- not sure if the mid-century lines work with your things, but another option. You might consider looking for something in a gold or bronze metal since you like gold and have other elements of it in the room.

    Thanks! I’ll look.

The blue media stand from Heather is nice, but at 62", it's probably not long enough.

Groveraxle, could you please show me what my room could look like with the photo gallery? Thanks! I honestly do not know what else to do?

Well, you've gotten some lovely suggestions from everyone here....

Just a word (or many) about gallery walls. I never realized how many awful ones there are on Houzz. Here is one that IMO misses the mark:

The Capistrano - Quail West · More Info
All the framed pictures are exactly the same size and the result is static with nothing of interest in the arrangement itself.

    Here are some good ones:

    Gosnell Residence · More Info

Traditional Family Room · More Info

    VisuaLingual home/HQ · More Info
The arrangements are tight with lots of movement, and different sizes and shapes of frames for interest.

Yes....I do not like any of them. Yuk!

Here's a gallery over your sofa. The three photos on the bottom are your three original ones. Then I added some different shapes and sizes to complete the arrangement. (I would not do an arrangement like the one you posted above. It's too symmetrical and static.)

Hmmm. So you don't like gallery walls in general?

Thanks pal! Do you hate the lantern too? We just hung it Friday. It’s a bran new home.

Heather, is there another lantern on the other side of the French door?

No only 1 I have Dible of everything else in this house. I felt like I need to break it up?
No room on the other side. It’s my kitchen.

I like the lantern...It's unusual and cute for near a doorway.

Your home is beautiful and I prefer the B&W family photos to any mass market art or decor. So much more personal. Lowering the shelf would help (I like Grover's rendering yesterday with the switched pillows).

Though sorry Grover -- I rather like the Capistrano gallery wall! I get what you are saying, but to me it's much less expected. Not that I am a huge gallery wall fan so what do I know.... I prefer big art.

Though our last house did have two floating shelves over our (buffet length) entry console, different heights, with two odd shaped pieces of art on each. I do like the floating shelf idea as you can swap out art Which can be good if you are featuring family photos and your family is growing.

Thank you for your comments. I’m feeling better about my choices. Because if I did take the items down, what would I do next? I don’t love large art. Not my style.

Heather, there's nothing much in your ideabook. How about if you peruse Houzz and save some examples of decor you DO like over a couch?

    Ok

    I’m a genius! I’ll do this!!!!
Ok! Found lamps I like, now to find matching art! I like the art in the pic but Wayfair don’t sell it.
Except I’ll be using these orange lamps.

I like those orange lamps. Just make sure they're tall enough. They should be at least as tall as the lamps you currently have. If they're short, consider putting a sofa table behind the sofa and putting the lamps on that.

I was hoping you saw this! Yes they are tall lamps. So would you do orange? Or blue that matched the chairs? Then what would you do for pillows? Stumped...
Grover would you lead show me what the orange& blue lamps would look like???? Thanks!
    Blue or orange?

Groveraxle are you on Facebook? Have messenger? I would like to get a hold of you please???

Heather, can you post your question here? I really don't want to give out my personal information here and haven't activated my Houzz messages because I'll be inundated.

Ok no worries! I usually use swatchpop and they just give you any ideas that you suggest. So here goes. I’m changing it up for summer. More color. I saw this on property brothers and I love it. Some of the pillows are from Target, especially the one I needed to pull this together. But unfortunately the color block is sold out! Help. I’m stuck for pillows! Here’s the idea and here’s what I got. I planned on using orange lamps because I don’t have the curtains. And can’t hang any in my living room anyway. Thanks for your help your awesome!
The pink pillow is one I love that matches my flower arrangement. So if I get pink pillow, orange lamps, what do you think of this other pillow? Orange or blue? Hold on won’t let me post more pics....
I can get this pillow in orange or blue. What’s the best choice?
I can get this pillow in orange or blue. What’s the best choice?

If I understand you right, you want to do pink and orange and blue, but the pink and blue color block pillow is not available. So these are the pillows with the orange lamps..

    Kind of meh, I think.

Here's an idea. Go find a bold color block pillow you love, then build the rest of your pillows around it.
