Houzzing it - Dining room

Here is our dining space. Adjacent to kitchen and 3 season porch. Cabinets are built in. We just set up our new dining table in the room. Table is at 5ft in pic, will be extended to 8ft often. There are two more chairs we haven’t unpacked. Painting the room SW Repose Gray. Windows have blinds in between the inside and exterior panel so window treatment is not an emergency. Lighting needs to go but don’t know what to replace with. Otherwise, everything is carte blanche. Rug? Art? Other furniture? What does the Houzz suggest?

That's a great rug. You have to make sure there is room for it, though. The chairs should be able to scoot back and remain on the rug to allow a diner to leave the table comfortably. You do not want chair legs getting caught on the rug edge. You should shoot for 24" minimum. Meaning, there is 24" from the side of the table on all sides to allow for scoot. This is a case where bigger is better.

Measure it out and mark it with painters tape. That will show you what size is appropriate.

Because it's a wood heavy room, I'd recommend curtain panels and an area rug if there is room. If the room has an echo, the fabric will help. And that far solid wall would be an excellent spot for some art!

if you want a light over the table, someone is going to have redo the electrical and move it from the fan spot. or will you be keeping that fan? And if you're going to do that (you will have to patch the fan hole if you move it), why not just scrape off the popcorn ceiling and have it refinished?

large rug for under the table? is that an option?

do you have any artwork for the walls?

seems like you have plenty of storage, so for the one wall behind the table, maybe a shallow console, art above it, two buffet lamps?

perhaps a nice potted tree for the corner near the doors?

this first one looks like repose gray w/white wainscot. sconces are a nice touch.

I also like the wainscot and darker colors.

If you can, I would look for a new table. the one you have looks a little informal for that room.

Gorgeous space! So envious of the light! I agree, I think drapery and a rug will really help to cozy up the space. To break up all the wood I would suggest going with creams and ivories. A nice light weight linen would be lovely for drapery. I know you have lots of storage with the built in cabinets (so lucky!), I would still add a narrow console table to the back wall. I would choose one that is metal and glass to keep it feeling light in the space. Then I would add art above it. Hope that helps!

Love the light drapery, console+Art and rug ideas. I want to take out the ceiling fan. Hole patching We aren’t a very formal family. We have young kids, friends and siblings with kids kind of dinners. Hence, a sturdy, wood table. Wanna keep it semi formal just for holiday dinners. Rug: I get the lighter the better but worry cream would clash w the gray of the wall? Would this rug work? Also, what size? I don’t much like metal furniture so will look for more glass and less wood pieces maybe...

How about this? I like how busy it is (for spills) without overwhelming the space. Also, it has several pop colors to work with.
