When will winter end?

It's still winter here in western WI. 4 inches of snow yesterday and more on the way tomorrow and Tuesday. The spark plug on the Bolens died right when I needed it. I've tried using Autolite plugs as I'm done with Champion's after having two D16 plugs that were DOA, but the Autolite's just mysteriously die after about 50-60 hours. I picked up a couple ACDelco C87 plugs to try. These 18mm spark plugs are hard to find.

I have found Bosch plugs very good at extending plug life on older equipment Yt . My Dad back in the mid 60's did a tune up on the VW bug and replaced the old plugs in our very old Cockshutt 40 tractor with the old plugs from the vw and the tractor ran better than it had in yrs lol. Obviously the next weekend he bought 4 new Bosch plugs for the tractor . Believe it was 1943 vintage and the tractor had a little oil blow by which the hotter Bosch plugs would handle ,something to do with their tungstin tip deign was the marketing hype .! Anyhow ever since on older units I still run Bosch over the OEM plug products.

Just finished up with round 2. It started around 1:00 this afternoon and have 4 inches on the ground so far. That's interesting on the Bosch plugs, I'll have to keep those in mind. The ol Wisconsin seems to like the Delco plug so far.

Winter? We used to know what that was, but not sure the last couple of years? I keep honeybees, and anytime the temp is above 50 without rain, they're out foraging, last year that was almost every day all winter. When they forage they use up food resources, since there was nothing to collect the hives got badly depleted very early. I was feeding In Jan. Feb. and March. Unheard of! Yesterday was 55 and rain, this morning there was an inch of snow, it was melted by noon. Tomorrow will be mid 70's, rest of the week in the 40's. I usually have a garden out by now, but it's rained almost every day. Have a GT with blade and walk behind snow blower with drift cutters that were used reguarly until recent years. Glad the Gov't says there's no climate change! I'm in SE Ohio BTW.

Rain rain rain by me. When I was a young'n we had a 2 stroke Kohler that would just kill plugs. Strangest thing. Tried everything we could think of for electrodes too. Hope you get it solved. Maybe a new terminal end or clean up and dielectric grease it?

I'd rather have rain right now. More snow in the forcast for this evening. Got the passenger side CV axle in my car replaced today. Went pretty smooth, just need to get an alignment now. None of the places around here want to touch it cause they say it's too old. 1990 Pontiac Bonneville.

Supposed to rain/snow today, it didn't. In frustration/rebellion, tilled a section of the garden, wetter than I'd like, but not too bad. It was windy, thought that plus having the ground broken and fluffed up might speed drying to I can get a few things in. If I don't have cabin fever, I can sure see it from where I'm sitting!

yt, at least you're having a winter, ugly as it seems at the moment. We have 70's, followed by 20's, followed by 70's, trees bloom, it snows, 28 and snow last night, 70 forecast for tomorrow. ENUFF.....

It got up to 50f today. Did some more work to the car. Had a intermittent misfire so I upgraded it to the Delco type 2 ignition in place of the type 1 Magnavox, put 6 new ACDelco Rapid fire single platinum's in and the ol 3800 is running like a dream.

yt, glad you're making progress or have won! Your comment about "50" triggered something. We were around 38-40 gray, overcast and generally ugly all day until 6PM when it went to 51, wind died and sun came out. OK, wind usually dies down for a bit around sunset, but it seems the warmest part of the day is around that time lately. "Used to be" that it got warm during the middle of the day and by 6 it was getting cooler. Chatted with a buddy in RI and he said he'd noticed the same thing? Just looked and it's 55 now at 8:15 AND we have a freeze warning tonight. Oh, I'm in Southern Ohio BTW. Well, the Guv'ment says there's no climate change. :-)

65 here too, I got half the yard mowed, finish the rest tomorrow. Amazing what you can do when it stops raining and the temp goes where it's supposed to be this time of year.

Spring has finally came to stay. Getting the yard cleaned up with the Allis 611 and free 32" agri fan sweeper. The A-C is a much better tractor for the sweeper. The Bolens is stuck behind the barn where my brush pile is, the mud is like quicksand and usually not this bad.

Gotta put some mudslingers on that old Bolen,s ! lol. Yeah mid 60,,s most of last week . Drained the Hot tub and refilled and treated , raked grass , Summe r is here since we apparently missed spring . Grass is starting to green up .

Super lug, running them on my GT and best purchase ever. IMHO neverliked the all trail style, if you get into mud, seems like they'd pack full and just spin. Maybe in a faster RPM like a four wheeler they'd clear themselves, but slow speed like a tractor?

Lost my largest and most active beehive to this "on again, off again" weather. Bees are very optimistic kritters, when they see a couple days of WARM coupled with day length, they brood like crazy and population explodes to deal with the nectar flow that's SUPPOSED to happen. If the weather doesn't cooperate and there's no flow, they literally eat all the resources in the hive and starve. Noticing a lot of hive losses here in Ohio. Mother Nature can be a very harsh mistress.

yt, no idea what your application is, but you might consider tire chains for mud and snow when needed. It's worked out real well for me as I have two GT's with the same size tires, one Super Lug and one regular turf and can put the chains on whichever one I need. This is the outfit I got mine from, but they're available all over.

I have a set of v-bar tire chains for it, but no matter how tight I get them they always work their way off. I'm just tired of messing with them. This usually gets used for the heavier jobs around here and rototilling, while the Allis 611 is my mowing machine. I have a mower deck for the Bolens but the gear box is shot and they don't make blades for it anymore. $120+shipping for a set NOS blades. No thanks. I would like to find a 3-gang tow behind reel setup for it though.

Gear box on a deck. That takes me back to the Sears Suburban's. Similar vintage to your Bolens I'd bet. :-)
