Ussyewal - others on this thread are discussing issues with quartz, a man made solid surface countertop.yours looks like quartzite and actual stone but often formed of various elements. Did you pick up your stone slab at a slab yard or was it picked out for you and you had it installed without seeing it? Because those spots may just be part of the natural stone in which case there is nothing to be done. Can you try to embrace it as part of its integral beauty?

Hi all, i have just had my new quartz counters fitted and the fit itself is beautiful, im just a bit fixated on the fact that the one surface has none of the pattern on it and is very nearly plain (just a few marble patterns) theres not a lot i can do so just wondered if anyone else has had to come to terms with this! part of the surface has got pattern and the way its been cut means the other side (thats joined and one complete

piece ) is very plain. Put a photo of the other surface in to show what pattern the counters are and how the pattern seems more balanced.

New homes have a warranty (usually 1 yr ). Call the Builder, again and again. Register your complaint and keep up the pressure. Keep records ! In the end you may need to demand a "credit" from builder to purchase the counter top yourself. Look into Cambria, I have had for 6 yrs with no issues . Quality product and installation. FYI, I am not involved with this company. Good luck !

This looks defective to me. I’d make a claim and call the vendor or your designer right away.

Rich S, I have those same stripes on mine (amongst other issues). Did you ever reach resolution?

Here’s mine - Joseph has been graciously helping on my thread about this, as well.

    Hi Lauren

The owner and an assistant came back to inspect and agreed not right. Since the vanity had not been installed they took outside and wet polished best they could. Still mot great. As Joseph C noted they mentioned the challenges of dark colors. Unfortunately i didnt see his recommendation for polishing in place till theyd already been here. For the kitchen they wiped the edges with Tenax Ager sealer. Very simple wipe on and wipe off. Edges only. Immediate and incredible effect. I purchased a can for ocassional reapplication. Many months later have even not needed to reapply!

Your "stripes" seem different. Almost looks like residue film from adhesive. Also appears its on top surface and this should have factory surface so fabricator should not be polishing. Also the Ager is NOT for quartz tops just edges.

I’ve been look for quartz countertops and got a sample that I like. When I brought it home it looked like residue from adhesive but it’s not. Not sure if this is what all quartz look like.

    Lauren S.

we have the same issue (strips) with our new countertops. Did you resolve your strips and how was that done?

@Ray Muller, for mine the manufacturer agreed it wasn’t right and replaced. However, there were still some markings (circular) in a few areas on the large piece at the back of the kitchen and the entire replacement bar top was an absolute disgrace - the installers wouldn’t even install it. We lived with a plywood top for a few weeks while the manufacturer took back the bar top and attempted to do some polishing magic. It’s 98% better and good enough. Then they had someone come out and do a similar polishing treatment on the whole kitchen to take care of some of those smaller spots that were there. All looks fine and it’s held up. It was a long slog but I’m happy with the final result - however, would not recommend the manufacturer.

All in all, they replaced but we still had issues. Took a polishing magician to remedy.

I just had Cambria quartz countertops installed about two weeks ago. Today, I noticed a grey smudge has appeared and I can now see what looks like a white "fill" line. Any idea what these are? Are they blemishes of the stone, stains, or a manufacturing issue? I tried cleaning them with Bar Keepers but it had no effect.

Second pic looks like a filled crack.

Thanks Joe. Is that typical for a new countertop or should I be going back to the installer? Any idea what the gray smudge could be from?

gray smudge looks like metal marks

I have strange, irregular marks that do not appear to be hard water stains. They also do not align with the markings. They have been there since the countertop was installed, but now it seems they are more pronounced. They basically look like the countertop us dirty. It's only on one particular slab. They appear different than the pics in other posts. Any suggestions how to remedy this? I'm getting ready to sell.

OMG all of you are scarring me with all your Quartz problems.

I want to change my granite countertop to Quartz.

Now you have me wondering if it's best just to keep it.

Looks like burning from abrasives. Have an experienced tech try a Quartz Renew kit please.

Hi all. We have Quartzite and it seems to have a white color spreading under the surface. We can’t figure out what it is. Thoughts?

@geristar That's weird and the opposite problem most post about quartzite. It almost looks like your quartzite is drying out from excess moisture. How long since install?

It’s a new apartment. I would say it was installed 2 years ago. We bought in March.

I have quartz countertops… I have over time seen large cloudy like blemishes on them. Beleive it or not magic erasers work perfectly. Test first on a small area before using as I did.

That is good to know! Any particular brand that has worked for you?

I’m having gray blotchy areas appear on my Cambria quartz. Of course the company is refusing to do anything about it saying it has to be something I’m doing to it and not a fault in their product. It was installed 6 years ago and has been increasing gradually and just in one area of my island.

It’s hard to see on a photo but the quartz is arctic white and these gray areas have appeared just in half of the island

I just have something similiar in a cork mat shape. I normal use my air fryer and insta pot on it… it’s like around the edges of your same grayish color only… trying to figure out if it was the heat or not and why it discolored around the cork mat???

I'm betting the only way those are coming out are with a Quartz Renew kit and an experienced technician. If I did the job, you'd acknowledge in writing the tops were ruined or no Joe for you. I'd figure out how much replacement would cost you and charge you half.

The same thing is happening to me. Just had viatera calacatta sol installed 3 days ago. I have used nothing but weiman quartz cleaner to clean them and today under natural light I noticed there are streaks allover it that wont come off. any ideas what to do here? these pictures are after i cleaned it with the quartz cleaner.

I have the same spots on my Calcutta quartz. Did anything work to remove them? They are smooth to the touch and I really only notice when sunlight hits them. Thank you

Try some acetone on a paper towel. If that doesn't work try some Tenax Quartz Toner please.

I am experienced after the contractor installed backsplash and didn't covered up the countertops. He also did the caulking and grout.

I just had a quartz counter installed in my bathroom and notice those dull dots all over on the top. I’ve been looking for Quartz my kitchen counters and looked at several different brands. I see the dull dots on some and not others. It seems they appear on the cheaper brands? Maybe it’s a coincidence? I asked my court supplier why it looks like that and he said I don’t know? I do notice though that there are some that say polish and I don’t see those little doll dots so I wonder if it’s a finishing process on the quartz? Anyone have any similar situation if you hold it in a certain light, it looks like a bunch of pixels on a computer.

Your tops appear to be solid surface, not engineered stone, and suffering from heat damage.

Giancarlo, what did you do about your spots? I’m running in to a similar issue.

  • last year

Our quartz countertops were installed yesterday. After the installers left, I noticed these light gray rings. I'm assuming they're from the counters being moved with suction cups. Has anyone experienced this, and has anyone had any luck removing them? I've tried wiping them with a few things but couldn't get it to come off at all. We only have 3 slabs in our kitchen and there's one on each. Thanks in advance
