Washing Machine Install Issue

I ordered a washing machine from Home Depot last week. The installers hooked up the hoses and turned the machine on to show there were no leaks. I peeked in the back, everything looked good at first glance, and signed off on the paper. As the machine ran there was a ton of condensation building up on the control panel. The installers had left, so I called Maytag and discussed the problem and they said try running with a load of laundry instead of running with without any clothes. Still no change. Then they said try turning the water temp down on the water heater. That also didn't work, but did reduce the amount of condensation.

I pulled the washer away from the wall because I still wanted to clean behind and under the area where the washer sits and noticed that the installers put the hot hose into the cold inlet of the washing machine and the cold into the hot. I am curious if this can and/or likely did cause any damage to the unit? Regardless, I'll ask that they include an extended warranty or if this is a serious problem install a completely new washer.
