Well if you are hoping to modernize, flat roofs are very modern. You could put horizontal wood slats across the face and paint the rest of the home a solid, darker color. It would look like a modern box addition. Replace the garage door with a glass one or a big picture window.

Thank you chiflipper the front bays and guttering is already being dealt with and is on the list of things to achieve - its the garage that is causing the main problem the builders and architects we have asked for quotes have all come up with different ideas. We are on the South Coast of England.

Rip down the garage and if you want an extension then start form the ground up .
