I really liked the 'The Great Pumpkin Project' listed under the SciStarter projects. I had never thought of the little creatures around the big and tough pumpkin. Here's something we tried. The last time I planted simple seeds which sprouted easily, I decided to get the kids to plant in a pattern. They like puzzles, so they made a note of the patterns using flash cards, planted the seeds to leave some missing and then waited impatiently for the rest to grow. We then had a bunch of kids visiting us to guess the pattern/plant that was missing. Those were just amazing weeks when our garden was alive with kids, chatter and excitement. Gardening and puzzling came together very successfully. I'm thinking of getting the kids to plant mandalas this summer!
