Miele speed oven

We are considering getting a Miele speed oven. We think it sounds really good, but may just end up using it as a microwave and seems silly to pay so much and just use it as a microwave. Apart from the microwave, what good things does it have that make it better than a regular 30 inch convection oven (for example, a regular Miele 30 inch sensotronic convection oven)? Just faster pre-heat? Anything else great about the Miele speed oven?

Just wondering whether to get a Miele speed oven OR a Miele 30 inch sensortronic convection oven and Sharp microwave drawer.

Your thoughts/suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

We have a 36" Bluestar range and a Miele speed oven. The speed oven is the most useful appliance in our kitchen. Ours is at counter height and is used much more than our conventional oven. Yes we microwave in it many times a day, but the oven and broiler also get used a lot. It is so quick to heat up to 350 that you would never think about turning on the large gas oven. I have no need for separate microwave and wall oven with this speed oven. If you are not buying a range then maybe your choice will be different. When we need 2 ovens at different temps then you can't beat it otherwise we use the microwave. They are stupid expensive, but for us it has been well worth the money.

What appliances re ovens are you currently planning? I would NOT replace a 30” conventional oven with a speed oven if that was my only oven. I have the MIele speed oven and use it daily for anything but a microwave. It is second to my CSO. I haven’t used my Miele 30” oven since New Years as I cook normally for two. When I need a 30” it is an awesome oven.

Thanks Kim G. So we are planning to get the plumbed Miele combi steam (XL version). The question is which of the following to get in addition to the steam oven:

option 1: 30 inch Miele sensortronic convection oven and microwave drawer

    OR

option 2: 30 inch Miele sensortronic convection oven (or Wolf E oven) together with Miele M Touch speed oven

We don’t really need 3 ovens but if the Miele M Touch speed oven is really wonderful, we could do that option.

Or not necessary because the combi-steam and Miele sensortronic or Wolf E ovens plus microwave would be good enough?

Thoughts on the Miele sensortronic 30 inch convection oven? Wolf E 30 inch convection oven? Anything really fabulous in the Miele M touch speed oven we would be missing?

By the way, Miele is coming out with a new 30 inch speed oven in May but apparently the same functions and about the same capacity as the 24 inch version; just the door bigger so fits better over a 30 inch convection oven without needing a trim kit.

    Thanks!

It depends on how you cook and if you want to splurge for a speed oven. The CSO and 30” wall is a great combination. You will find you will use your CSO for many of your current Micro tasks. I spent the extra $$ as we could with our budget for the speed oven over a microwave and am very glad we did. The 3rd oven comes in very handy during the holidays/entertaining. For normal everyday cooking, I usually only use the CSO and the speed oven as I don’t need the capacity of a 30”. I did not want to use the space for a built in microwave I would rarely use so decided to spend the extra $$ for a 3rd oven (speed). I have been happy with that decision, but I could have lived without it using a toaster oven as an occasional 3rd oven. Short answer to your question - yes you can likely live without the speed oven in place of a microwave but if you have the budget then go for the speed oven over a microwave and enjoy it!!

I'll point out you are mixing two control types, M Touch on Combi Steam and Sensortronic on speed oven. It may not be apparent now, but you should try to make these match. The combi steam only comes with M Touch, so you'd want the same on a speed oven.

I have a cso, full oven, and speed oven. Use them all regularly, but being honest, the speed cook portion where the MW & oven functions are used simultaneously isn't useful enough that's its a must have and I could certainly live without it. The main use is having two small ovens, they really do heat up much faster (like 5 mins vs 25-30 mins for me) and end up using the full oven infrequently. If I didn't have two small ovens, would have to use the full size often.

We will make final appliance selections in next 30 days. New cabinet build to fit. Will have a 36" dual fuel range so the big oven and down low (considering Miele for this as well but sounds like bugs to still work out). We agree with most and don't see the large range oven as frequent use.

Pretty much decided on the Miele 24 speed oven in lieu of just a micro (we have limited space). Not sure if we would be happy with no micro and this upgrade gives us a second oven which we do not have now.

Question = what exactly is it about the CSO that sounds like first choice to some folks out of the three? We could stack a CSO with the speed oven. What do we gain by adding it to this combo?

@cobalt21 sounds like you feel very set with just the two which is our current plan. Good to hear that. Daily cooking for 2, grandkids on weekend, larger groups only holiday.

@Kim G curious about what you do now that was micro before..."You will find you will use your CSO for many of your current Micro tasks."

I have the convection oven and the speed oven. I use the speed oven quite a bit. I dont cook much, but I do use it to heat rolls and I use the microwave a lot. When people visit, they use the speed oven for cooking as well. I like how versatile it is and that I dont need a separate microwave.

Kim G ... do you have to clean the CSO every time you reheat food? I saw complaints about the CSO in terms of maintenance. It’s not horrible, but it sounds like you have to stay on top of wiping it down, emptying the water reservoir and the water waste. Wondering if you have to do that even when you’re just reheating food. Do you leave water in the reservoir all the time? Or do you only add it when you are going to use it. Appreciate this discussion since I’m in same dilemma of trying to decide if I need a speed oven, CSO or both.

Miele recommends that you run the rinse cycle after using steam capability. This is more to flush/clean the internal tanks/pumps/lines rather than clean the oven. Unless you disable it - the oven will start a rinse cycle after completing a steam or combi steam cycle. I disabled mine as the oven was usually too hot to run a rinse and I didn’t want to deal with it while eating dinner. To run a rinse you need adequate water level (up to the min level) in the water tank and a fairly empty condensate/waste tank. Unless you get a plumbed unit this needs to be done manually. I find 99% of the time I have sufficient water and a pretty empty waste tank when I am done with my stem or combi cycles so I just run a rinse cycle normally after dinner using the tanks as they are. The next morning I wipe out the oven, empty the tanks, and leave the door partially open to dry. You can also run a dry cycle if you chose. Its really very simple and if you have the plumbed unit it fills and empties without manual intervention. I do not leave water in my tanks for the next use - I always fill with fresh water. I have a prep sink across from my CSO so it is literally 180 degree turn to fill/empty the tanks.

Thank you Kim. That was really helpful. You just saved me $3k. :-)

@annad1234 - does that mean you will skip the speed oven and if so is that becuase you can live without a micro or would you do a micro? We are still deciding.

I have both the Miele combi steam oven and speed oven and use both regularly. My combi steam is plumbed and the maintenance is very easy. I don't use the speed features on the speed oven as much as I thought I would, but it is a fantastic regular oven. I use it daily, along with the combisteam. It would be hard for me to choose between the two ovens, but if I had to I would pick the combi steam oven. I also have a 30" convection oven and a 36" gas oven. The smaller ovens get the most use on a daily basis.

@snowwhitegehrig -- I'm going to skip the *steam* oven ... not the speed oven. I just know myself and I won't want to clean an oven every time I use it. To be honest, I hardly ever clean our regular oven. I don't really care if it doesn't sparkle. But it will drive me mad if I have to run rinse cycles, empty containers and wipe down the oven every time I need to use it in order to prevent a mildew/mold buildup. I've been experimenting with the InstantPot and I can steam a nice meal (rice, veggies, fish/chicken) in there. That's all I wanted. And that's a heck of a lot cheaper! :-)

I do plan on getting the *speed* oven because I use the microwave and our Breville toaster oven a lot. But in our remodel, I'd like those to be in a cabinet. I like the idea of them being combined into one appliance. I will only have a 36" range, so the speed oven will act as my second oven. I rarely need a second oven (just during the holidays). So the speed oven will allow me to bake pies while the main meal is in the oven. A downside to combining the micro and MW is that I won't be able to access a microwave to melt butter and do small jobs while both ovens are in use, so I plan to keep a small micro in the pantry for those few days where I will be using both ovens.

The only thing I'm trying to figure out (and I just started a thread on this) is whether I have to swap out racks every time I switch from microwaving to baking with the speed oven. That would drive me crazy. But it sounds like I can use the glass tray for both microwaving and baking.

I love my Miele CSO - it has been in just over 6 months - I am using it every day. I love experimenting with it. I have done 7 racks of baby back ribs at a time for a friends party. Steamed them for two hours then put them in my full size ovens to finish them off with BBQ sauce and get a nice glaze on them. People were raving about them that they were so tender. I have uses it for canning jams, Sous vide desserts in 4 oz mason jars, Sous Vide steak, steamed hard boiled eggs - you can do large quantities if needed. I can go on and on how great this oven is. Go on you tube and get all kinds of ideas of things to make. Also the Miele center in Coral Gables, Fl has classes on line on Tuesday teaching you about your Miele appliances - they are wonderful to get you going using your appliances!! Great recipes to try.

@lisa Lines did you consider the Wolf CSO as well? I'm curious about all the reasons re: choosing Miele over Wolf. Thank you for sharing!
