The HT, Grand Amore is supposed to be one of the best. Use it for cutting after it gets established. It will get tall.

I just picked up Kordes' Boureax. I expect it will be very healthy. It's packed with petals and smells delicious.

Do you have room for a climber? If so, I recommend Rhode Island Red (also sold as Fields of the Wood). Gorgeous color, healthy, not too rambunctious. It's not "Valentine red", but a lovely dark cherry that carries visually in the garden. Good re-bloom, not much fragrance.

Rhode Island Red

Depending on the space you are looking to fill, a couple disease-resistant reds to consider would be Firefighter, a hybrid tea (http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.36980&tab=34); Florentina, a Kordes short climber (https://www.kordes.us/plants/florentina-arborose); and Desmond Tutu, a Kordes shrub (https://www.kordes.us/plants/desmond-tutu-sunbelt). Your mileage might vary on their level of resistance to the strains of black spot and other diseases in your area.

If you have lots of space, I recommend Ascot. But Palatine is the only one who sells it, and bareroot season is almost over, but depends, of course, on how cold you still are. Ascot is a true dark wine red, very reliable bloomer, and very cold hardy, and heat resistant. We don't get BS here (desert), so I can't say anything about that. I've grown two Ascots for a number of years with no problems--they're just big. Diane

If you can fit a climber or large bush, I second Florentina. Healthy, deep red colour, gorgeous blooms and slight fragrance. Thorny and apparently slow to get going, but she's a bloomer. I also second RIR. I'm not sure on DTutu as I've seen it defoliate at one of our regional parks. I'm adding a few new ones this year, but I won't be able to juge them for a bit. : ( One of them is called Valentine if you want to look it up.

Try Red Riding Hood. Bullet proof, and clear, true red, old fashioned bloom.

Another true red that does well for me here nonspray is Desmond Tutu.

Grand Amore is great too, but tall, stiff growth habit.

Florentina is a keeper. Rock solid here for me is Miracle on the Hudson, more of a single type bloom. Dark Desire. Fields of the Wood. Gypsy Soul, a newer one from Kordes.
