basement remodel, need suggestions for under stairs and brick column

We are planning to remodel our basement: removing the wood paneling and replacing with drywall; removing carpet and putting in water/scratch resistant wood laminate (thinking darker...mahogany maybe?); and replacing the drop ceiling tile with wood lattice, thinking to stain in a similar color to the floor? planning on painting the ceiling black as well. feel free to offer suggestions for those things as well! my dilemma: do I keep the banister white and do the under stair area dark...black to match the ceiling? do I make a pull out drawer under the stairs (it's hard to get back to so would be better use of space)? is there anything I can do to hide these vents(?)? suggestions on how to revamp the old brick chimney?

lighting is also getting switched to recessed. here is the inspiration for the ceiling, and an idea I'm toying with for the column (would do in the same color as the floor/ceiling or else a red or another accent color. guess it would help if I had some sort of idea as to what color we would paint the drywall. suggestions?!

So a few things:

-Be careful doing dark flooring and a dark ceiling. It may feel like the room is closing in on you. I'd go lighter for one of them

-Don't do laminate in a basement. Laminate is water resistant at best, but even that's kind of a lie. Go for LVP (laminate vinyl planking) instead. It's far more durable for a basement.

-Dark floors show everything. They're nearly impossible to keep looking nice so just keep that in mind when picking flooring.

-The brick column looks nice, don't worry about it

-Stair modifications (even adding drawers under) should be done by a pro only. Never DIY stairs because there's a lot of structural math involved and local codes.

-Pick paint after everything else is installed. It will really help you determine what the best colors are.
