Anyone have any first hand experience with growing Candy Lights in warm zones? Some recommend up to zone 9 for Candy Lights, some only recommend up to zone 8.

Do they actually need the chill of lower zones, or just tolerate it well? I recently bought a few and placed them in the shade, near some viburnums and other azaleas that grow well (deciduous and evergreen). I tend to place azaleas and rhodies in more shade here than what’s recommended elsewhere and it works great for me. They’re near the house, so protected from wind and extreme sun/heat. But, near the house here it also won’t get much, if any, winter frost.

I have assumed they don’t really need a lot of winter frost, but instead tolerate it well. I figured they would probably be just fine for me as long as I care for them properly. Any hints or experiences from others who grow Candy Lights in warmer regions?
