I like 4” cans with LEDs but IMO 2700K is too yellow and I prefer daylight bulbs in 3500-5000K for a nice bright sunshine look not blue and not yellow. I find a lot of electricians are slow to come around to LEDs but the llight is so much nicer than incandescent or flourescent. I use the pot lights that are actually the replacements for halogen 50 watt GU 10 s in a small pot light space like 3” . I would for sure have a chandelier of some kind in the DR on a separate switch from the cans and the cans on a dimmer.. Is the ceiling actually vaulted? If so how high?The pots in the kitchen need to out from the front of the cabinets to actually work best and some under cabinet lighting is always a nice addition again on a separate switch. I think with good pendant lighting over the island you could delete the 3 pots in front of the island on the DR side

Thanks for responding. So the ceilings are 8'. And I plan to put them all on dimmers. Yeah the more I look at pictures of other rooms I think I have way too many cans. Thanks again!
