Can dull wood look tile be made brighter?

We're looking to install wood-look porcelain, but we need a non-rustic and bright look. Everything we've found in a light beige/blonde color is just dull compared to actual wood floors that are sealed.

Is there anything that can be done to increase the glossiness, even if something has to be applied every 2-3 years?

No. And you do not want glossy tile floors. They show everything and are a slip hazard when any moisture happens.

we would just like it to have the same brightness as real wood. I've noticed that porcelain seems to be duller than ceramic. why is that?

Byram, large format porcelain floor tiles are never processed with a "polished finish" for the reasons Sophie mentioned. Both porcelain and ceramic floor tiles are made with gloss finishes, as well as matt, but would seldom be recommended in large format for floors. And no, there is nothing you can or should do to try and coat porcelain floor tiles for a polished finish. Sorry. Those tiles are not trying to "be wood". They are porcelain, which can have many advantages over wood depending upon your needs, but if your priority is the actual aesthetic and finishing options of wood, then best to get wood.
