Marble behind gas range? Durability?

I need to choose a kitchen backsplash and am leaning toward marble subway tile. This would go behind the gas range too, up to the vent. I will have it sealed. Should I be worried about staining/ discoloration? If grease or tomato sauce splatter I'll wipe up but not like, immediately. Wondering from others' experiences if it will look OK long term. Thanks!

Mine is 11 years old, sealed and is going strong.

Ours is over 10 years old. It is honed Carrara marble and has never been a problem.

Most people seem to agree that if you don't like a bit of patina, you shouldn't use marble. If you don't mind that, then you'll love marble. I would be much less worried about it as a backsplash. Backsplash doesn't get as much wear as a counter and if it does etch, you don't run your fingers over the backsplash often, so you likely wouldn't notice.
