I would never have the closet door in the bathroom. Steam and moisture can easily get in there when you open the door to the closet. Have the closet door in the bedroom.
You may want to give us a to-scale drawing of the bedroom and bathroom as they exist NOW for alternate suggestions. Include all wall measurements and show locations and measurements of all doors and windows.

How do you like the current layout? Does it work for you? What about enlarging the 2'x5' closet?

I am thinking that the bit where your bathtub is now, will be a shower? I think others are thinking that will be a vanity area with access into the closet. I don't see any closet doors on the proposed layout.

My first thought would be to extend the closet on the left to match the one on the right, so the left closet has a total depth of 5.5 feet. I'd also move the door on the left closet to face the one on the right. Then you have two walk-in closets, facing each other, which creates a nice symmetrical walkway from your master bedroom to your bathroom. Would that give you enough closet space?

You might also benefit from re-designing your closet space with new shelves, built-in drawers, etc. That could substantially increase your storage space without actually increasing the footprint of your closets.

By the way, you may want to re-check your measurements carefully. Are you sure your shower is only 24 inches deep? Most showers are at least 30".

If you are going to renovate a master bathroom, go all the way!

You have great space to work with and it can be dynamic without going out on a limb. I think your dimensions for your proposed plan might be off, and definitely not luxurious enough.

What you drew in scale is not enough space to function properly and you can do so much more. Let's face it, we spend our lives in the bathroom, so it might as well be well designed and pretty. See below for another approach.

You hadn't indicated what style you like, so here are a few inspiration pics. Let me know what you think. By putting the shower in the corner it can be large - 60 x 60 - and a bench can run along the back wall.

The vanity can be the full width from the shower to the left wall. Don't worry about the position of the window, if you like the layout, I can send over some pics of mirrors mounted in front of a window.

The freestanding tub can have a wonderful wall design behind depending on you style. The wall that is against the closet wall can have a 10" deep ceiling to floor linen cabinet.

Is there a version of this layout (less luxurious) that would be reasonable for a smaller area? Our master bedroom is about 23'x10'. We only have one full bath for a 3 BR house and with two growing boys it's getting crowded. We're so longing for another full bath but not sure if it will work and if it's a smart investment resale wise if it yields such a small bed area. (I personally love a small sleeping space, just bed and some books, no extras...but I'm not sure everyone feels that way especially about a master?)

We've envisioned a similar layout that would bisect the room, giving us room for a bed and nightstands on one side with built in closets and bathroom on the other end. (The entrance door is just about in the middle of the long wall, roughly 10' of wall on either side.) Is this realistic?

ps I really want a soaking tub :)
