There is always the possibility for virus. however, the leaves look healthy and the ragged holes are more suggestive of herbivore damage. Look closely at the flowers, including at night. Inspect for insects between the petals, slime trails, etc. Even small, hard to notice leafhoppers, thrips, aphids, etc can cause massive damage with their feeding.

I think it’s thrips, no biggie. Excessive rains seem to promote it. I do nothing and wait for next year.

Thanks! I didn't even think of thrips, because I've never had them here. Excessive rains has not been a problem lately, until the past couple of days. I looked and saw one thrip that hadn't been washed away by the rain on the outer petal, so I think that's probably it. My Confederate Rose had the same problem last year, so I'm pulling out the systemics this year.

I say I do nothing but did not mean to discourage you into looking for eco friendly guns. I just have too much to care for and since most of my hippies do well, I put them in the ‘fend for themselves category’.

Mosaic virus can result in distorted flowers. When I got hit way back last decade, I was stubborn and kept the plant regardless of mosaic showing in the leaves. But when they flowered, the flowers were a bit distorted.

But the leaves of your plant looks fine so perhaps no Mosaic in your case.

Imidacloprid and acetamiprid both work against sucking insects on amaryllis from my personal experience. Be careful what you have around the plants after because beneficial insects can also be harmed.

Sometimes plants get hit hard regardless, but overfertilizing does encourage outbreaks by increasing the nitrogen content of the plant tissue, making it more attractive as food.

bossyvossy, I took no offense. I try to do everything organically, but chemicals are called for in some cases. I have been battling whitefly on my confederate rose for years. Ladybugs took care of them last year, but the leaves were still horrible looking and the blooms were small and distorted. I vowed this year I would put something systemic on there. I hate to endanger the ladybugs, but there are plenty of aphids for them to eat. I never treat aphids, because beneficials usually eat them up quickly.

pterodroma - thanks for that information. I don't fertilize my beds at all. I practice permaculture principles. I do chop-and-drop from nitrogen-fixing plants and pile up leaves on them in the fall. Seems to work pretty well. The earthworms fertilize them for me. I hate to use chemicals, but sometimes they are necessary.
