That's good to know. I didn't know if it was like a bigger tree. It also makes me wonder if they are good for soaking up water around the foundation to to prevent foundation breeching from too much drainage

It is also a bit of a myth that trees "soak up water" :-) They only take up what they require for healthy transpiration, nothing more. Some trees are more water demanding or aggressive than others but they still have a limit as to how much soil moisture they will absorb.

I realize this an old post. But I do have two if these trees growing near my house and their roots are growing into my foundation. I was shocked to dig and try to follow these roots. They are headed straight for my foundation. So I’m gonna get rid of them. Any suggestions?

There's really no need, but if you do, just dig them out or cut them down as you would any other tree (with appropriate cautions, of course!)

Also I'm wondering, if this is possible, is it also possible to trim them down to keep root growth down?

I was going to plant some flowers near these trees and when I started to dig I ran into alot of roots. So i unearthed the roots that were heading towards the foundation and cut some with a handsaw hoping it stops the growth of the roots.

Does anyone know if this will be effe?

Nope, they'll just regrow. You can keep after them if you like, but those will then just regrow as well.

Can emerald green arborvitae be planted 2 ft from my driveway in a row? I only have 3 ft from my driveway to my fence and want to find a privacy evergreen that can reach 12ft with a 3 ft width. I've looked at Emerald Green, Taylor Juniper and Italian Cypruss. I'm in zone 7 with moderate sunlight.
