Curb appeal requires one to go outside to see it, and impossible to quantify its' effectiveness unless you are trying to sell. When you are inside looking out of your windows, where would you like to see something pretty? Gardening in those spots will provide real enjoyment for you.

The first thing I would do is remove the blocky shrubs across the front and replace with something that has a natural growth habit, and doesn't need to be sheared into a box.

I couldn't make suggestions without knowing your general location, how much sun/shade this area receives, and some information about the soil. The area screams for some color, doesn't it?

Since the steps up to the front door are so narrow, I suggest that you get rid of the pots on both sides of the door. I'd also remove all of the pots on one side of the steps entirely. Use your largest and prettiest containers for the other side, and fill them with something suitable for the amount of light in that area.
