Impressive! Nursery 'experts' pretty much have no clue for the most part.

I don't remember how far inland Fremont is but Northern California has multiple different climates, with it getting a lot hotter very quickly while moving away from the outermost coastal strip. What, exactly, was meant by the Bay Area would be pertinent - if they were talking only about the regular afternoon fog belt or something more. And who, specifically all these experts were is also a critical point. As we see all the time on this site different people know different things.

I'm not sure why they would say that........even when grown as an annual in colder climates, it can reach 8' in a single season. In zone 9 and above, where it will act as a perennial, it could/should get a lot taller!

It originated in New Guinea, needs frost free conditions with high rainfall and fertile soil - there's a history of a lot of the production being in Brazil and India.

The areas of the SF bay area that are within sight of the GGB would be too cool,I would think..but that leaves all the peninsula below SF airport and the eastbay down to San Jose or Santa Clara as good for cane growth.

I cant claim its as sweet..but I can't say its not either. This Asian family had almost all food plants in the yard..why give so much space to cane if it isn't sweet?

That's not my yard of plants Luciano. But,the all edibles yard tells you,if that 'cane wasn't sweet,they wouldn't waste space and water on it.
