My first thought was Cascades, but then I thought of Spritzer which is long and flowing and the pot would eliminate The problem with slugs.

I'd go with something upright, like 'Krossa Regal' or 'Regal Splendor' for example.

What about something with red petioles? It would tie into the red from the pot. Here's Red Alert in a pot from a few years ago -imagine it in a red pot. Its going back in a pot this year, I think.

It all depends on how much of the top of the pot you want to see. Get an upright to see all the black, but a drooper if you only want to see mostly red. You don't say how large this pot is...height and diameter???

Oh, and is it plastic or ceramic? What will you do with it in winter?

OTOH, you don't actually have to plant the hosta in the pot, but rather a pot in the pot... you can just build up a fake inside and put a pot of anything that sits at rim height in there, and easily switch it out.

Pot is 16" and about 2' tall, plastic but impressive enough to be center of attention and eye grabbing feature. Do I dare to put eye grabbing hosta in it? Or "plain Jane" green one must do?

Yes, it looks like it will be pot inside the pot arrangement. Small hosta needs to be big clump but medium hosta probably will look best...

Some people will see the eye grabbing pot (probably most folks). Hosta people will see the hosta first.

I have Frisian Pride coming this spring and am planning on putting it in a pot about that size. I’ve seen some stunning photos of draping hostas in pots on this forum. I got Permanent Wave because of one of those pics, can’t remember whose.

in your zone.. it HAS TO BE.. pot in pot.. you arent going to winter them over in the fancy pot.. unless you can move the whole thing into a structure ..

dons pic is incredible ... but i would be worried it would be top heavy ... especially in wind ... karins high pot.. surely isnt out in wind ...

I like a blue hosta in the red pot, perhaps Blue Cascade, Waterslide or Joy Ride. I like the look of interesting leaves in contrast to the bold color of the pot.

I have Twist of Lime in tall black pots.

ken...my high pots are nearly half filled with gravel and I use the pot in pot method...learned a lot here :-)

This is fun, imagining plants for your pots. I like the upright, maybe Krossa Regal. I would do the pot within a pot suggestion also. Save the back!
