Nowhere. I'd say keep going until you're about a year in. They're that slow. Mine died after 16 months when I got a house and forgot about them in the mess. But at that age, they did not look like they would have survived being manhandled.

On the other hand, at that age, I couldn't be sure they were what they were supposed to be. Hopefully, SpanishFly will see this post, so BUMP!

I read somewhere that I should be poking holes in the cover and slowly acclimatizing them to full exposure to the ambient environment. What are your thoughts on that?

At three weeks, no. I kept mine sealed for most of the first six months mostly because they were stable that way and I didn't want to meddle. I started popping off the lid after that. By the first year, they were fully exposed.
