Are the tiers removable?

No, sadly. They accommodate the stairway that’s below the closet.

You say both tiers are 28" deep. It looks like the white tier is not as deep as the gray tier below so is that incorrect?

How would it work if you did shelving on one side from the door to where the tiers start. And the size of the shelves would be about the same depth as the box that is on the floor. Would that give you enough aisle space to walk in there? If the top tier is not as deep you could extend that out as a shelf to match the bottom one's depth which would give you additional shelving for larger items that may not be used as often.

It’s hard to tell in the photo, but the tiers are both the same. I thought about Elfa-type basket shelves on one side, but then I got stuck!

Did you see this photo? Could something like this work if you extended the tiers out towards the door as shelving?

What do you mostly store as pantry items?

The first tier starts about where you would put pull-outs leaving room for the shelves on the door, so that part would work, but I don’t see how you could make use of the remaining 2 levels because they’re so deep. If you extended them as shelves, you’re talking about 3x28” or 7 ft long shelves to use the top tier...

Hi Lindsey! I would love to be able to store cans and boxes of groceries, but, honestly, I’d settle for figuring out a way to make at least most of the space usable/accessible for anything! It’s such an odd space.

Ok, a bit out of the box so bear with me.

Build a very narrow set of stairs over the middle tier, like in a built in bunk bed. 18" wide, on one side.

On the top tier, build shelves around the sides and back. Use the back for storage of large bulky things in packages (toilet paper, paper towels) or once a year items (Christmas dishes).

Half of the middle tier will be taken up by the stairs. The other half can have 18" wide pull our drawers.

Build drawers into the bottom half of the

staircase, pulling open into the floor space.

Wonderfully creative thinking! It doesn’t seem like the space is tall enough for stairs, but maybe...

Is it a full 8'? If so it will be no different from climbing up to access a top bunk! The only time you would use the top stairs would be to access the stuff on the very top and back shelves; otherwise standing on the ladder like a step stool would suffice.

Yes, Ted! Now I have to mull them over a while...we plan to redo the adjoining kitchen, which makes the idea about opening the wall to allow access from the side pretty interesting. Definitely an elfa stack on the door and maybe a step stool on one side to access the back in the meantime- all very helpful ideas!
