yes it does go under cabinets. I didn't think that far ahead. Would cabinets have to be removed?

Are you planning a kitchen reno anytime soon ? If you are I would wait until you come up with a new layout and then choose the floor IMO there are things that need to be addressed in this layout so worry about that first if modernized is your goal.

Well, yeah, in order to remove the tile. all the lower cabinets would need to come out, and of course the tops off as well. Going to be a major p.i.t.a. at that range wall.................

Patricia, Oh geez! We do not have plans for an entire new kitchen as we have 1 just started college and 2 heading to college in two yrs. It’s 11 yrs old so hoping to get at least 5+ yrs out of it to get us through the college payment years. We are wanting to change the flooring. I guess this is really just a flooring change / color opinion question, not so much modernization at this time.

Do you have wood flooring in the rest of the house? You could continue that into the kitchen, or stick with a similar tile in a different color. I would go with a light beige/tan large scale tile. Updating the flooring, backsplash & paint the walls would give this kitchen a nice facelift.

I have heard of the tiles being cut at the foot of the cabinets to allow new tile without removing cabinets. Talk to your local reputable flooring specialist.

I think if it was my kitchen I would just change the rug and see if that helps I think the floor is modern but the kitchen is traditional that to me is more the issue than the floor alone.

I think a new rug,backsplash,and paint would be smarter choices for now. Should tide ya over through the college years.

You can cut the tile against the cabinets at the toe kick in front, and at the end of the cabinets on the sides (and of course you can remove the range to remove that tile), then, after you install new tile, add a shoe molding at the base of the perimeter of the cabinets. I say "you", but of course I'm really referring to a well qualified tile installer:).

What size tiles did you choose?
