Help with basement sitting / tv area

Hello! so we recently built this house and still working to get it furnished. but... having a surprise party for my dad in a week and im trying to at least do SOMETHING about this area by then. :)

right now, its just the fireplace plus a bunch of media equipment that i need to somehow hide + the sofa + the coffee table.

i splurged on the jonathan adler sofa but now it feels like lipstick on a pig in this space.

i'm thinking a quick fix of: two accent chairs or another sofa? shelving / media stands on each side of the fireplace, some fun pillows.

but im struggling with the colors. its much too "brown" in that entire basement right now. on other side of basement is the bar and dining area with cherry woods and camel colors. what color is safe to pepper in here?!

help pretty please!

(try to ignore the clutter and toys - those will go!)

Here is what I would do:

Add two white or cream accent chairs. Like the photo, or one in each side.

Add painting on the wall with some white and cream to match the armchairs and bring more light to the room. a wooden chest to put your media equipment and put it on the other side of the fireplace.

Dive deeper with a second matching sofa. Put them in an "L" and get a credenza 25% wider than the TV for the wall perpendicular to the FP.

hello decoenthusiaste, thank you for the advice but that seems like a longer term fix than what i'm looking for right now. also, this is a very low traffic (rarely watch tv here) so i'm not terribly concerned about the placement of the tv. i am looking more for advice aroudn how to fill that space and add some pops (or not) of color if possible! thank you!

a couple grand for now. i will have to continue to build on that space. wont happen overnight for sure! :)

Do you have an accent chair that you can move into the space? Deco had an excellent idea for hiding the equipment and cords in the credenza and moving the TV. Since that isn't in the plan right now, get an accent chair with arms so that your Dad has a place to sit and can get up comfortably without having to sit on the low sofa you have there now.

nope, i don't have an accent chair. i was thinking that i could add another sofa of equal size (not same), and place them across from each other. or alternatively adding two accent chairs. again, not terribly worried about comfort here. this is not a main living space.

i like that... question on the arm chairs (i clearly know nothing about design here)... does it matter if the chairs are taller than the sofa? like wingback chairs for example? i'm guessing not, but i want to confirm... thank you!

No Maria, it is definitely not a problem if the chair are taller than the sofa.

Add a pair of armchairs so your dad can be comfortable in one of them. I like the 2-sofa idea, but would want them the same, unless you're very comfortable with mix and match eclectic decorating.

to be honest, i like mixing and matching - i just don't have an confidence in my selections!

Check IKEA for some consoles/side tables for both sides of FP, for media equipment.

i love the way that look but i think i'm going to step out of my comfort zone and do two different color / patterned chairs! feel like this is my opportunity to have some fun here. and maybe i should change up the side tables so they have more white / gold in them?
