Thanks for the reply! It's in a well-draining cactus mix and it was thriving in that pot last summer/fall (same planting since early/mid summer when I got it). It held up for a while under the overwinter light but eventually went dormant. It's been so wet/grungy for so long this year. Our nightly lows are _still_ getting down to 40°F (4-5°C) or about 55° (12-13°C) in the garage where I keep it.

I'm happy to inspect the roots -- is there a safe way to do it? (for both me and the plant). I know that I need to at least protect my hands...

The fact that you notice the plant woobly it worries me. Its not doing well. The roots could be affected. The only way to save it would be to take it out of the pot, rinse the roots well and inspect any signs of rot, which you could cut off and apply some superglue to the cut area for fast healing. You can use rubber gloves if you wish. The plant is not so toxic as some people think. Then, you can let it dry for a few weeks or pot in a mixture of cactus mix but dont water for few weeks. See what other Adenium friends here will sugest. Buy if it was me, I would take out any of my woobly plants. There is always a reason under the soil.

I would inspect the roots as suggested, but I would wager that the plant is just drying out and needs water.

The black garden spike in the 1st shot is pointing at the soft spot that originally caused me concern.

Quick edit/update: I found a guy locally who knows his stuff. After we both just about cried over it, he removed a lot of the rot and I'm going to attempt a rather drastic operation. I have now cut back most of the rotted/dead stuff (well into the caudex). Next comes the sulphur fungicide, a cool dry place for a month, rooting powder and some fingers crossed. I'll update on here in case anyone has a similar situation or stumbles across this thread later!

Matt, Mine lost her leaves last year. Too wet. I unpotted her and sprayed (garden hose) her roots clean. When I repotted I kept her dry dry dry. Currently in major bloom and back to great health
