Sorry! It is the the bottom of my stairs. The curve of the stairs is pieces of wood cut upright. The shape should have been a backwards J. One entire piece of wood should have been used instead of multiple pieces. I have three steps in this condition. Does that help?

You could wrap the curved area with a stainable laminate that will match the stairs. It may require a bit of extra trim molding to cover the trim. There is also flexible stainable moldings available.

Worst thing for your indoor air quality is carpet. Get rid of it.
