I like the look of fussy cuts, but don't like the fabric waste that goes along with it. :)

I also don't care for Sunbonnet Sue/Sam, and modern quilts. I don't like a lot of current color schemes - lots of brown with turquoise and/or coral. I don't care for most art quilts, though I can appreciate and envy the talent that goes into them.

Loves: traditional quilts, symmetrical quilts, scrappy quilts. Florals on black backgrounds. Wholecloth quilts, miniature quilts, quilts with intricate piecing and/or applique.

I just remembered I don't like navy blue and UFO's.

There are very few finished quilts that I don't like but I do agree with you about Sunbonnet Sue. I wish she'd go away for good. I love all the steps in making a quit except for preparing and sewing on borders and getting the back ready. This is probably because I'm always piecing these instead of using large pieces of fabric.

There isn't a whole lot I hate about anything, but I do dislike sandwiching a quilt and paper piecing. I don't care for designs or techniques that waste fabric and I really don't like to make Log Cabins. Stripes, I do not like to use stripes. I don't care for hand sewing anything anymore because I hate the needle threader and not really being able to see well enough to be precise!

I'm ok with fussy cutting if there's no wasted fabric. I love Sun Bonnet Sue, I love traditional blocks and easy ways to make use of scraps. I love how elegant a simple pattern can look using the right fabric. I love spreading love and comfort by giving my quilts away...........what good will they do me? I have a couple that were made especially for me and those are the quilts I'll keep and cherish.

Hates: Sunbonnet Sue/Sam, paper piecing except with Linda Hahn's new york radiant beauty pattern, which is SUPER easy, not fond of plaids. Ripping anything out. I'm an not a long arm quilter, never warmed up to the idea of spooling a quilt on those huge racks. Traditional feathers, mostly because I am not as successful with them-the backtracking over previous stitching drives me nuts.

Loves: Applique', Mariner's Compass of any kind, piecing, I really enjoy the whole process of planning the quilt to top construction, Some embellishing techniques like bobbin drawing and couching, backing prep and sandwiching, water soluble thread basting(Safety pinning added to Hates), All kinds of free motion quilting, pouncing stencils, hand stitching my bindings, I thoroughly enjoy designing quilting to fit specific areas on my quilts, although I do not do alot of feathering, when I do feathers, they are Sally Terry's variety from Hooked on Feathers-no backtracking!

there really isn't enough band width to list all my loves and hates. But, the first that come to mind are:

hates -brown or orange as a background, pinning and finishing up a quilt, having to use the master bedroom to sleep in when it would make a perfect quilting studio, ripping anything out, being just that one piece short of enough fabric, my favorite quilt shop going out of business, never having enough time to sew.

loves- applique, paper piecing sometimes, choosing colors and fondling the fabric, hand work like binding, plaids and homespuns, Civil War repros, 30s, batiks, Hawaiian blocks, assymetrical quilts, unusual layouts, brights with white backgrounds, brights with black background, polka dots in anything, stripes in borders, and so forth.

Almost, but not quite the opposite of ritaweeda

Dislikes: freezer paper blocks- why bother? skimpy/poorly written directions for a project, wasting fabric, quilters criticizing quilts at a quilt show, points cut off, overly complicated blocks with no apparent overall design element, thread tension going wacko, dull rotary cutter blades, embroidery on quilts, making a quilt label, fuzzy thread, making my quilt back, a messy fabric stash (mine is rarely organized and mess free-I just try to ignore it :-|)

Likes: well there's the fabric, and of course more fabric, unique and modern designs, trying new blocks, fussy cutting when it has a design purpose or theme, different quilt top layouts, spray basting, machine binding, art gallery fabric, designing the quilt, following the modern quilt bloggers, piecing quilt top leftover strips for the binding.

i sure there's more, but those are my highlights for now...oh I forgot paper piecing is ok, but EPP hexagons...no way - not going to happen!

Dislikes: paper piecing, hand applique, points that get cut off, wasting fabric, dull cutter blades, sewing with/on/quilting on BLACK, orange anything except for the citrus fruit, Bargello quilts, repeatedly sewing a block wrong,

Likes: scrappy quilts, Sue and Sam have their place in the universe, landscape quilts, trying new blocks, English Paper Piecing, sewing on the binding by hand, embroidery on my quilts - especially my Red Work, Blue Work and Pink Work quilts I’ve made and sold - must be time for another one! I love the Nickel Quilts books and quilts by Pat Speth and I’ve made quite a few, especially love my Sunny Lanes quilt that is on my bed. Love my stash of 1930 reproduction fabrics and I really need to start using it up!

It's funny you mentioned Sunbonnet Sue. I promised to make one for my mother since she lost out on one her mother had. I have been putting it off for a long time for many reasons, one is that I am not a big fan of Sue.

Other than that, I can't think of anything I really dislike, except ripping out.

This is Barbara Brackmans Threads Of Memory BOM 2014...Consists of Y-seams, mitered corners, applique, 60* angles, Fussy cuts, re-sizing templates, presidential cornerstones & Barbara showed it on her blog for everyone to see she liked it immensely. I was very honored....most of my centers are birds.

Another interesting thread. I haven't been quilting very long, so I'm still exploring the hobby. At this point, my only real hates are the expense and not having enough free time for quilting (and all the other fun stuff in life that I want to do).

Regarding S. Sue, I volunteered to work "the store" at our 3 day quilt show. The merchandise (table runners, mug rugs, potholders, etc...) was all handcrafted and donated by guild members. In "the store" we had two Christmas trees loaded with a variety of quilty type ornaments. We sold out of S. Sue ornaments within 2 hours of opening on the first day of the show. The other hot seller was quilted zipper bags. Apparently, S. Sue is quite beloved ,,, and some quilters don't do zippers!

City, I took over the dining room for my quilt frame setup. :)

I am very new to the quilting thing but I have found a hate that I did not expect.

I hate finishing other peoples quilts,picked up some free partial quilts and figured I would throw them together to donate at the local charity. It took longer trying to fix them than it would've just to make from scratch :(

Hahaha, I know just how you feel kingd! I used to sandwich & quilt tops made by others. It was an eye opener that so many people could not sew a straight seam. Maddening to try to quilt without puckering!

Debra...you should feel honored, so cool to be recognized by a "recognized" name in the quilting world...Nice job. Love your hexie...I admire from afar, I'd never have the patience for the hexie...you go girl!
