Every house shifts and settles. Unless your house is moving via an earthquake or multiple inches than it wont crack. If your house is moving and settling more than a few inches to where you are worried about cracks, spend your money on a house inspection not on flooring.

I have porcelein tile through my kitchen. So long as they install it properly you will be fine. You might have minor grout cracking with settling but nothing that can’t be easily matched.

Neither the grout not the tile will crack when installed with the proper uncoupling/crack isolation membrane. But most builders are too cheap to do the job properly, and that doesn’t usually happen. Do it right, and go it once.

My favorite floors ever are acid washed concrete.......way low maintenance..way gorgeous..and nothing shows on the natural mottled finish...if you live in a cold climate added radiant heating is the best and cheapest way to heat your home and makes a cozy warm floor ...even on bare feet

"many of my friends have advised me against tile" Are your friends tile professionals or just victims of poor workmanship. A properly installed tile floor is intended to last the life of the structure. Read the link Sophie posted. You should find it most helpful.

I dislike tile floor in a home it is hard on backs, knees and feet , echos sound, feels cold unless heated and IMO not a good choice except in really hot climates
