Putrid Pink Bathroom

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi everyone!

My bathroom is PINK with a beige toilet and sink, cream colored honeycomb tiles, pinky-beige shower insert and tub, and ghastly pink print wallpaper and border. The single vanity cabinet is currently a medium oak builder grade. Not one of the fixtures matches the other in color! I can live with the pink tile for a while and the bathroom has lots of light at the end of the big jet tub. So far I'm in the process of removing the wallpaper.

Until I can afford to completely renovate, I would really appreciate some suggestions on wall paint color and cabinet paint color to try and pull the room somewhat together. I like the floor but would consider changing the grout color.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

I would opt for cream paint, maybe even for both the vanity and wall color. Can you share a picture of the vanity? For pink I think subtle neutrals like white or cream work best. The floor is very pretty.

The bathroom is FABULOUS! Lots of people love pink bathrooms. It’s built like a tank, and will fight you st every turn to try to change it. You’ll never build one to that quality anymore for anything close up a budget project.

Work WITH the pink and beige. There’s nothing onjectionable s out the combination. The wallpaper is even great!

Thanks Nelly Bluth, I like the Manchester tan - will get a sample. However, I'm afraid it will clash with the other beiges - but then again, may pull some things together. Pricklypearcactus, I was thinking of Marscapone AF-24 of something similar because it's light and bright. I will post a photo of the hideous cabinet, tri-mirror and light fixture later today.

Sophie, we bought this 1990 house three years ago. The wallpaper is 28 years old and peeling in multiple places and it was badly installed in the first place. I've already removed most of it. I intend to work with the pink tile but as I said, NONE of the fixtures match. The sink, toilet and shower have been replaced at various times over the years with different shades of beige and pink. As far as I can tell, the only thing original is the tub and the floor - the rest has been "remuddled" prior to our purchase. I was looking for paint colors in the meantime.

I helped a friend of mine choose paint for her pink bathroom once. She had a pink tub, two different shades of pink tiles, and two different shades of gray tile (one greige-ish, one more blue-gray). It is extremely frustrating. She ended up with lavender walls, which wasn't great, but wasn't any worse than the other options (she didn't want white).

I would be helpful to get an idea of all the various pinks and beiges and how they relate to each other, though I know that's a tall order.

I like the tub and tile. Get rid of the wallpaper first and reevaluate.

I think a very light to medium light gray would look good with the pink and gray and beige don't look bad together either, at least don't clash.

If you are open to different wallpaper you might be able to find one that treats the different pinks and beiges as separate colors.

Husband not a fan of wallpaper -- although I love it.

What about a dark brown or taupe? I love pink and brown together, and if you pick the right brown it should work with the beige. I'm partial to Benjamin Moore's Fairview Taupe, which I think would look nice with your pink.

Lots of great suggestions - Thank you everyone! Here are more photos of my challenge. I will paint the cabinet (what color?) and replace the light fixture. All a stop-gap until I can afford to reno the bathroom. As you can see, the toilet is a completely different color from the tub and tile and I have already started removing the wallpaper.

My future reno plan is below. Yes...I will be taking out the ancient jet tub that doesn't actually work all the time.

I think taking down the wallpaper and switching out the light fixture will be big improvements. Maybe you should swap out the sink hardware as well. I wouldn’t spend money on upgrading anything else. I’m glad to hear you will eventually be getting rid of the jetted tub. Jacuzzi tubs give me the heebie-jeebies. God knows what could be lodged in those jet filters.... eek...

Finally got all the wallpaper off! Heading to paint store tomorrow. Looking at Marscapone & Manchester Tan, OR...maybe I'll just go PINK! I will paint the cabinet (color?) and replace the faucet, match a new sink with the toilet, and get rid of that awful light fixture. Remember, I have a yellowy-beige sink, oak cabinet, beige toilet, pinky-beige shower and tub, pink tile and beige trim and a light pink-beige floor! Wish me luck!

After BM Opal did not work. I tried BM Mauve Hint. Success!
