great. hang it on the wall,,,about 56-60" from the floor to the middle of the canvas, and take another pic

Please let me know which canvas suits?

that first one looks nice w/your colors in the room.

although, it's like pulling teeth to get you to post a full picture of that area. step back and take a larger shot so we can see what's to the immediate right.

grab some new blinds, or some light blue or gray or navy drapes, put a centerpiece on the table, and you'll have it!

these Silhouette blinds or the cellulars would look very nice on that window

I like the art...I just feel like it needs to be taller (bigger). It can work, though, as is. Also, your table seems close to the window...is there any room to move it over to the right?

thank u. since you have no bar stools, pull the rug and table further to the right , if you can, so that it's even w/the picture. you could actually use a bigger rug in the spot.

the picture should be dead center on the wall.

you need a hanging light over the table. can you exchange the flush mount light?

you have a drapery rod over the window, but no drapes. what's going on there?

We don’t have space to move table and rug to the right side. That’s why I moved to left wall. Can I keep my flush mount light in family room? Once I decide the canvas I will add drapes.

Do you have any suggestions on drapes?

Drapes in the breakfast area should match or coordinate with others nearby. Stand in the family room, way over to the right and try to get a picture of all the windows on that left wall.

Just looking at your walls, art, furniture and granite, I suggest a cream, medium blue, or drapes to match wall color.

If you take some straight on shots, I think the photoshop wizards can help with options.

I added few more canvas pictures, if anything better than what we have on Wall I can buy and try on my wall. Please add your comments. 3rd one we picked.

I love the top one - but then I love blue. It's brighter and bolder than the others, in my opinion, but still pretty! If it's a bit larger than the one you have hanging, all the better. I think your room will look great!

    Not a Pro.

I have seen the top art in person. It is beautiful!

I like the canvas you have hanging now, though I actually would prefer a portrait format.

I'm sorry, but the table looks really silly there. The seat by the window can't hold anyone but Flat Stanley. If you must keep the table there, at least move that chair to one of the other sides.

Your rug is too small. I'd either get a bigger one or not have one at all.

why can't you move it away from the window a bit? if that's the case, then doing a regular height table (not pub height) in a rectangle, with a bench for the window side might look better. the bench can go under the table when not in use, and the table easily slid away when someone has to sit there.

or perhaps doing something like this built in seating would work better.

you could do an L shape, as shown, and have your art work hung over the bench like this photo (just reverse the L) and get a regular table. It would fit better in that room, give you ample seating, and still allow space near the kitchen countertop.

sorry, bu that pub table just isn't working how you have it. artwork on the wall isn't going make much difference if the everything looks 'off'.

yes. the canvas is fine. the light is far too small. Grover did a mock up for you. looks better

One mire question on canvas, this is just canvas, in that area how about framed art? Is it too heavy there?

    last modified: 8 years ago

I think this would be overkill in your space. I really like Grover's mockup. You really do need a portrait shaped piece of art (I do like your existing art, just not the shape of it). The bench would make it look even better...but I know that may be a bit more expensive.

Any suggestions on online buying for canvas?

I really like the metallic bits in that canvas, helpdecor. It would be nice to find something metallic in a different aspect ratio.

What I like about grover's mockup is how they make your kitchen look finished, too. Everything ties in.

Recently I bought few art pieces for same wall. Can you suggest which one good? Either we can go with blue canvas or new art pieces?

    Any help?

Helpdecor, we've given you suggestions--to pull the table out and get a large square canvas--but you're showing the same canvas you had before, which is pretty, but not really the right shape. That scrollwork thing is too generic and of little interest. I would return it and resolve only to look at art.

If you look at my renderings above, you can see the approximate size that would look good along with a suggestion for a chandelier hung 30" or so above the table. Those are the two things this room really needs. I don't know how much more help we can give.

you can decorate your wall with multi-piece metal tables. you can evaluate it with different size measurements.

    From my April 27 post:

Here's a whole bunch of square metallic canvasses: https://www.greatbigcanvas.com/category/art-by-color/metallic-wall-art/gold/?pagesize=90&shape=2

I gave you the link and then hung four of them in your room.

helpdecor,,the whole point of posting is to get advice,,,and then take it,,,,if you don't like the advice, don't keep asking the same question hoping for a diff answer. Grover gave you excellent advice and did some beautiful mock ups for the room. you are so focused in on that one piece of art and that one spot on the wall. Go ahead and use whatever you like on the wall. you seem to be ignoring the advice that goes with it.

all of us have said that this canvas is fine. it works. but yet you keep asking if you should use it or something else! use it already.

but you still need a larger light, a rug, blinds or drapes, and moving the table away from the window. otherwise, all you're going to accomplish in that space is hanging art on a wall.

Grover posted a few different links on where to buy art. did you not see it? Go back and read all of Grovers comments. seriously,,she's gone above and beyond to help you.

helpdecor - here's another art option for you. We could print this image on metallic paper, or even print directly on to metal, which would give it a wonderful luminous quality. You can see it larger at https://derektarr.photo/photos/raindrops-underwater/10

Sorry Beth and Grover!! I like your opinions. What type of curtains would be good in family room and breakfast room? I have chocolate color sectional.

For curtains, you really can't go wrong with linen curtains that are close to the color of your wall. Be sure they are long enough to just skim the floor, and full enough so they at least look like they could close. (If you do plan to close them, they should be 2 1/2 - 3 times the width of the window.)

Finally, do anything EXCEPT rod pocket drapes. If rod pockets are all you can find, then don't use the rod pocket, but hang them with rings and clips instead. This is what rod pockets look like, all bunchy and a lousy drape.

Nice Thanks!! I was looking online I picked few curtains. Can you tell me are they good match with my wall color? I have a question on picking the curtains. Is the curtain color depends on wall color or art work or furniture in that area?

The safest bet on curtains is to aim for the same hue as the wall color or to choose something really neutral like a natural linen (which is kind of a yellow-y off white). You will have to be the judge of what best matches you walls since I can only see them on a monitor which is notoriously inaccurate.

Make sure your curtains are returnable because you won't really know if they work till you get them in the room.

BTW, earlier I noticed that Pier 1 had a lot of nice grommet curtains online. If you have a Pier 1, you might go by and see if you can find any in the store. Because your furniture is heavy and dark, look for curtains with some weight and texture to them. Nothing floaty and filmy.
