Dying to see pictures!

Please don't get discouraged by people who use condescending names and sarcasm. It sounds like a fun design and I can't wait to see it. White subway tiles work for many people, but not everyone.

I don't think anybody is being discouraging. It's refreshing to see people make bold and unusual decisions. But balance is key in a successful application of color and whimsy- too much and the effect is gone- hence the advice to lay off the pink in order for the color to not disappear in a sea of pink. A black and white backsplash makes a great deal of sense color wise- and is quite bold design wise.

I really hope you post pictures. We need more color inspiration these days as the gray trend finally fades.

That's crazy. When I first got in to the kitchen design business...it was 1983...and I had just purchased my first home. I designed my kitchen with slab white laminate cabinets, pink countertops w/ a stainless steel laminate edge and a black and white checkerboard floor. Your kitchen sounds cool and I can't wait to see it!

Ps. I never did get the pink tops (wasn't much to choose from back then)...went with the sparkle finish black laminate in a bullnose. But I went with pink wallpaper. It was the 80s! :-)

If I were to do another kitchen, I would SO do the Wilsonart ENDURA color and get the real steel metal edging.

I had a pink, Black and gray kitchen which I did in the 1980’s with black and white checked floors. The cabinets were painted pink.

I downloaded a picture of a pink AGA sink as an inspiration photo this time around but I’m going with another color palette this time.

My friend lived in an apartment that had the original turquoise appliances from the 1950’s and it was fabulous.

I downloaded some gorgeous pink glass mosaic tiles this time around because I was thinking of going with a pink bathroom this time around but I opted for teal instead.

Go with it. I told my designer no beige, no brown, no gray. Lol

Thank you everyone for all your fun and great ideas. And WOW!! I’m happy you all are so interested in seeing pictures. I had a busy day today. I have read most of the comments, but I intend to “absorb” them all tomorrow!! I am home all day tomorrow and will be free as a bird so I will most definitely be putting pictures up. I’m so happy to know there are others out there who can relate to my situation and vision.

Let me just say, our home construction has really been an interesting process. Extremely slow, exhausting, and Life changing actually.

I was tempted by my family and close friends In every category of construction to change what I originally wanted. There were a few small choices I did end up settling with, BUT I am okay with at this point so I have no regrets!

Almost all of our male friends have given my Boyfriend a hard time about the pink theme before even seeing it. The ones who have seen it now are a bit speechless, but there are still the few who still don’t seem to get it.

I also had these types of comments coming in quite frequently throughout the process —

*Ohh You can’t do black walls because It’ll make the space look too small

* Ohh don’t do open shelving because everyone will see all your mess. That won’t look good. (I decided to do both open and closed shelving)

* You really shouldn’t do a built in booth table because it’s permanent and it may not be good for resale value

* Don’t put your laundry room on the main floor basically in your kitchen because it’ll be too noisy and everyone will see your laundry pileup (it has doors and can barely be heard)

* I wouldn’t buy that pink couch because you want something bigger, calmer, and more comfortable. That’s crazy.

* I wouldn’t do hardwood floors and if you do, you have to go light. (My floors didn’t turn out the way I originally wanted. Honestly, I did cry, but I love them now).

We moved 6 times in 4 years, and am very burnt out from it. There’s nothing more I want than to have a home that feels like home. So I won’t be moving for a long time. I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t care about what other buyers might like or not like in the future if we ever do move. I want to live in the now, and I want to live in a home that makes me smile and fits my personality. I am in my kitchen more than any other room in the house. I have two kids, and one who has food allergies. I have to cook a lot from scratch. So I basically live in my kitchen. Why shouldn’t I enjoy every little square inch of it? It’s pretty exciting because now I don’t want to leave my kitchen/living room area because it’s beautiful!!

Literally, the rest of our house is TRASHED!!

Absolutely! I told my husband "I do 90% of the work in the kitchen, and 75% of my day is spent there. It will be exactly how *I* want it."

You are right - they are wrong!! I have had them all. Laundry in the basement, on the second floor right by the bedroom, in the bathroom, in the garage and even once, outside (Southern CA).

The very best place for the laundry is by the kitchen. Because that is where I am and that is convenient for me.

Laundry upstairs or downstairs tends to get forgotten or take longer. Laundry adjacent to the kitchen gets attended to.

Sounds wonderful to me. Stick to what you like, not what everyone else likes or thinks you should like. If you smile when you walk in your kitchen, then its perfect. For me, it is the color turquoise, that makes me smile. Turquoise is my happy color.

Wow, that is a well-put-together space! I have to admit that it is not my style preference but I definitely see that you have a great eye. Really really good work.

Seeing it I do think that solid black would make a great backsplash. It would balance the black wall to the left and the fridge really nicely.

That is an energetic space. You have executed your vision perfectly! I am guessing you are younger than I am, and are not a child/teen of the 80s, but there is a strong 1980s feel to the decor that I really like.

Have you considered a back painted, glass backsplash? I'll post a picture of my apple green one later.

I love when people are not afraid to make bold decorating decisions! Love the color combo. You asked for more bold ideas so here goes. I would add some pattern to your decor by making the wall that the stove is on multicolored in order to tie the other colors together. I would also add a very large and very dramatic black and white photograph or mural that covers the entire wall to the wall behind the pink sofa.

Since you clearly like pink -- and your color choices thus far seem to have turned out very well, fully living up to your own high expectations -- rather than detract from your original color choices with something trying to steal attention, consider using only a single row of 4" black tiles as your backsplash and leave the rest of your backsplash walls painted pink.

If you choose a patterned backsplash, you may end up with a totally different look ... one that is too "busy" for the white and pink and black color contrast to be fully appreciated.

Also, and, I think, importantly: It's much easier to decorate and redecorate a painted wall as your tastes or needs change over time if you have a painted wall than it is to decorate and redecorate a tiled one. You could add a spice rack and/or a magnetic knife rack and/or your favorite colorful trivet(s) and/or a floating S&P& sugar bowl shelf and, with a bit of sheet rock patch and paint, remove them without leaving any telltale trace (holes in tiles) that they were ever there.

DO save some of your pink paint for any touchups so you can be sure to match it should you want or need to do so.

It is gorgeous and it is unique. I hope you enjoy every minute you spend there. I wouldnt do a backsplash, just leave it painted like it is now. It looks wonderful, and you have done a fantastic job.

A new family moved into the neighborhood back in the 50’s. The mother was younger than the rest of the the moms, Her husband bought her a black and white 1952 Ford convertible and she would drive us kids around town with the top down, singing along with Arthur Godfrey. She was so cool. And, she wore shorts!

She decorated her house with all mid-century furniture, lots of Asian touches, and a pink and gray kitchen. Wow!

May we all have our own “pink kitchen” at least once in our lifetime.

Of the various suggestions, I think the black and white geometrics (Jan Moyer's 1st pic and White Marble Source's 2nd), or back-painted glass in either black or pink (matching the walls), would look best. From the close-up view, I leaned toward the pink, but seeing the whole wall, I thought the black or black-and-white would work well.
