Finishing our dining room

Just moved into a new house . We need some help finishing our dining room . Currently have a Duncan Phyfe dining table. While this has a more traditional look, we are interested in blending styles.

We need to update th chandelier, choose a paint color and can’t decide if we should or shouldn’t add a rug? If so, what kind of rug?

The mirror will eventually be hung once we paint.

Between the mitt or and the table I believe the room is already traditiona. the ding room is connected to our living room which is blue and white.

need advice on lighting options, paint color and rug?

Any other design feedback is welcomed.

Hmm. Seems to me if you had an antique Duncan Phyfe table, you'd want to highlight that not obscure it. I would go with some Sheraton shield-back style chairs, or Chippendale chairs with upholstered seats. You can choose some more up-to-date fabric for them, but the open backs will allow you to see more of the table. See the photo, below. I like the idea of a crystal chandelier, but pick one that is more contemporary so you don't feel like you're walking into a museum.

As for the rug, I'd go with a more contemporary Turkish or Persian style rug. Once you've found one you like, pick up one of the colors from the rug for your walls.

These are great ideas. Thank you. Does the size of the chandelier matter? Table is 65in long. I will look to find some chairs that could complement the table

Yes, don't go too large. The room itself and your table are not that big. I'd go an inch or so smaller than the width (not the length) of your table. So if the table is 32" wide, for example, find a fixture that's no bigger than 28" to 30" in diameter. The size of your current fixture is about right. Measure that and go with a similar dimension.
