Your post was clear to me, all options on the table and new construction and asking for advice on level of window trim. I’m older and prefer a substantial amount of trim, preferably stained wood. Our daughter (in her early 30’s) just remodeled and did Sheetrock returns with a modest sill. A lot of white and hard crisp lines, pretty much the opposite of my taste, but still looked very nice. My advice would be to trim to fit to your taste, but stay away from ultra trendy styles. They don’t last that long. Not great pics, but here is a shot of my daughters kitchen window, they dressed this one up with a head but still pretty plain and pic of one of ours. Massive difference in styles

It doesn't really have anything to do with economical. Rather than bringing furniture in the house and putting it in its place, trim is like furnishing the house itself. If you try to skimp out or go cheap, its gonna look cheap. Like white trim for example. Its cheap crap. The first picture lkbum_gw posted is true craftsmanship.

"transitional style, clean lines", thats just a nice way of saying, "I'm going cheap".

i guess i'd ask how do you feel about crown molding? its all part of a look.... no window trim, no crown molding, minimal baseboards.

Nini- I like crown, not sure we'll do it, but that's great perspective. Makes sense to do at least the trim if we did crown. I definitely plan to upgrade the baseboards. Standard is 3" and it looks bad to me - debating 4" or 6".
