Sylvester Date Palm, what happened?

last modified: 8 years ago

We have two Sylvester Date palms (at least that’s what they are supposed to be) that were installed in our backyard about 8 years ago during a pool build. We have one at each end of the pool, similar light exposure, soil, watering. The one on the right is doing fine. The one on the left is pictured, any idea of what is going on? There is new growth but it is dying rather quickly. We are about to spring prune and the right palm has 50% less dead leaves. We had a harder than normal winter in northern Florida but I am worried we might be losing the tree. Any input?
