help! flooring problem

We are remodeling and took down a wall between the formal dining area and the kitchen/breakfast area. Now when u walk in through the carport u see the room divided into two long rectangles! Our house has hardwood floors that are discontinued (of course) so we found what we thought would match “ok”. The flooring guy began tearing the old up to weave the new in to try to blend. He discovers that they don’t fit in together all the way!!! I have just enough old floor to even out the jagged portion but not enough to go to the wall (about 12 boards). I can 1) tear up hardwood and run new cheaper version over the whole area except the kitchen which currently has the vinyl but we are replacing with grey tile 2) tear up it all and make everything grey tile (kitchen, dining) or make any “entry” way of tile where the old floor can be evened out and then tile the flooring we tore up (that would give me the long rectangle look I didn’t want PLUS an entry at the end of the wood floor if tile. I don’t like any of the options. Help!
