That's kind of impressive!! I am amazed at the state of your tomatoes and the fact the fruit is formed and ripening. Just a reinforcement that hardiness zones really have nothing to do with anything other than winter cold..........it is still too early to even consider planting out tomatoes here. Soil temps are still quite low and overnight temps are risky. June 1 is the target date here, even in containers!! Mine are ready and waiting but they wont be planted yet for another couple of weeks.

Tomatoes are a tricky crop for the PNW - it is late to warm up and summers are never "hot" :-) Short season varieties are the only hope for a ripe tomato here unless one has a greenhouse.

You got that right. Yea, I see you are Z8/9, so it doesn't seem to have much to do with warmth, or plant out dates, or growing season lenght.

Edweather I have a somewhat silly question. I am from the northern states and our tomatoes don't ripen till usually July or August. In the mean time we buy tomatoes in the store that comes from the southern US this time of year. And they just don't have the flavor of ours. I assume that when ours ripen they get shipped south. Does ours taste different also to you?

You noticed that I said for now. About 3 days later I noticed Septoria Leaf Spot on 3 of 4 plants, and pretty bad on one of them. Pruned as much foliage as I could, and sprayed yesterday. Hoping for the best. They don't look any worse today. The fun of living in south Georgia.
