XR16 is more toward the lower range of units, it's unlikely that it has a hard start kit for the compressor.

With that said, if the compressor is a scroll compressor it's extremely rare to need a hard start kit. It won't hurt anything if you use the proper one for the unit. Avoid kick start, 2 wire type kits.

Trane compressors aren't the same as they were years past. These compressors are either made in Mexico or China now and in some cases I've seen 3rd party compressors installed. Like LG and such.

For these reasons I would never recommend a Trane unit this day and age. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's no better than any other brand out there and you typically pay a premium for the name 'trane'.

In some areas Trane may be your only choice or your best choice because of ease in which you can obtain parts... service means different things to different people.

If it's not easy to get parts then service will suffer.

The Trane XR16 has a scroll compressor. A new AC condenser should not need a hard start kit. If it has a hard time starting, then it could be due to a voltage drop. If that is the case then it is a wiring issue and should be addressed.
