We think so. A lot of people pair their natural wood with either black/dark colors (like in this entryway) or a stark cool white in order to get away from the “soft” country look and instead pull from a more modern aesthetic. You could do this with just your furniture accents (if all is finished wood) or door color/actual windows if those are in a paintable state. Or, if you notice in this picture, they offset what is usually a very country/shaker look with a retro mid century light fixture to provide that “edge.” It’s a delicate balance, but our philosophy is that spaces look fresh when you implement contrasting styles but unify them with a common thread, such as an interwoven color palette or a repeating pattern or silhouette. In this guesthouse they went with a traditionally “country” or folksy aesthetic, but implemented colors and furnishings that while still a bit raw (to unify with the folksiness), pulled in a modern vibe. It’s very Pacific Northwest. We wish you luck!
