Kitchen Appliance Placement

Here is a sketch for appliance placement, my range and frig/freezer are each 48". Ignore the island sink placement, do you see a better flow.

Yes it is, there will also be a sink in the island.

The plan seems backwards to me--can you vent from the interior wall?

Yes, we can vent from the other wall. One concern I have, the snack breakfast wall has a large window over it with nothing below, seems funny looking to me. Is that an appliance garage next to the oven?

One reason I like the range on the other wall, it is more a focal point in the kitchen.

It may be more of a focal point but the kitchen layout you designed will be very dysfunctional and not a pleasure to work in. Mama's is much better. Having each part of the triangle on a separate wall with an island in-between is not good function and you'll need roller skates between your three primary appliances, the fridge, sink and cooktop.

It is an appliance garage, and the first one in the collage I posted belongs to GW member 'huango' (Amanda), who describes it in the following thread:

    [My beloved appliance garage ...[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/my-beloved-appliance-garage-dsvw-vd~2677150)

I left out a cabinet under the window, to help avoid a pinch point. If you make the island only 42" deep, rather than 48", as drawn, you could have a very shallow cabinet under the window--maybe deep enough for canned goods. But then you'd have space for only one seat on the short side of the island.

One reason I like the range on the other wall, it is more a focal point in the kitchen.--

You'll be prepping with your back to the cooktop, and doing dishes with your back to the cooktop, no matter where it's placed. With the island flipped, you'll have a view of the window as you prep. Posting the whole house layout would help us determine traffic paths. Will more traffic be coming from the open space to the left, or from the passage on the top left? (Of the plan as I have it rotated.) If from the open space, then traffic will naturally take the shortest path to the back door--right through your cooking zone, if the cooktop is centered on the bottom wall.

Thank you everyone, you've given some good feedback. I'm considering it for a few days.

Here is an updated layout leaving the kitchen open to the family room. I dislike open floor plans but it appears this works better for me overall. The dining room is on other side of the wall behind the range. This plan give me a seam in the island countertop.

Much more functional, but I'd put the prep sink closer to the fridge, so that you can prep on the side near the range. Are you still using wall ovens? Would you like a pass-through to the dining room?

Can we see a sketch of how the kitchen relates to the rest of the floor plan?

Your new plan seems to have the clean up sink quite a long way from the dining room. If the dining room is behind the range, then could you add a door to the upper right corner of the kitchen? It might make clearing the table a bit easier with fewer steps to the sink. Just a thought.

The prep sink is on the island across from the frig and range. I'm only installing a single steam oven, the Blue Star range has two ovens already, I just want a steam oven also.

I prefer the clean up sink be away from the central work area, I like that dirty dishes and cleanup can be away from the commotion. I did have a main sink in the island in another home and didn't like it. The formal dining room won't be used as much as our casual "game table" in the family room. We removed the extra door to the dining room, we didn't like it or use it. 99% of the time just my DH and I are living in this house.

Thanks for the input, it helps me take another look.

I completely understand your reasoning behind the cleanup sink location. I wouldn't want mine on the island either. I like your layout overall. :)
