Super chairs! i agree on the round table for your space. I saw your giraffe on the shelf between the living room and an African theme (without getting precious) came to mind. I say go colonial and find a rustic teak table, cover the seats in an African fabric and perhaps replace some of the small shelf tchotchkes with baskets - or make an arrangement on the bare wall in the dining room. I love the idea of the contrast between your formal chairs and a sort of rougher table and seat fabric. Of course, it all depends on your taste.

If you 're keeping the black seats, a black painted table. You could give any thrift store table a distress finish. A dark wood finish would be nice contrast, too. Or for a lighter look, try a limed or pickled white wash over a wood tone. You might have repaint table and chairs if you want a perfect match but I think some contrast would be nice.

White, round table with queen anne legs (curvy). If you dare, a pale yellow paint color, white wainscoting, a fabulous chandelier, and a wild rug with a border of lime green! My image is rough, but hopefully, you get the general idea. Mouse over image to see the rug.

Find an old table and paint it , and stencil a pattern on it. Fun DIY project that would really look fab. ( One pic is of a coffee table but you get the idea)

Great idea Mark! If a full stencil top is too much, you could do a damask medallion in the middle of a round table. Or, leave a border around the edge all the way around and stencil inside. White table, black top, white stencil would look great when you have nothing else on the table.

I love the idea but honestly I don't like the black fabric on the seats , I would recover them with a different fabric , Mark's idea is good , but you must find a stencil like the trellis for example or something lighter in design and paint choice ,you need to soften the look of the furniture . Let me see if I find something to show you what I have in mind.

I agree with Mark. We are both working under the assumption that mskrlatt liked what they picked and wanted direction for a table. I think that shabby chic was not what we thought the OP was looking for.

"Let them eat cake" .... is its off with the head day today I see. I'm not forcing anyone , these are only ideas and personal opinions ,the choice is yours and so is the furniture .

Honestly, your comment could have been made made without the dig at him by suggesting that "you must find...something lighter in design and paint choice" thereby dismissing his idea of going with what was in the original post pic.

Handyman ,It wasn't a dig at Mark!.... it was for the stencilled table I understood his point in the stencil and I even liked the idea of it , I just didn't agree with the dark colours of the stencil that's all ! nothing personal . Your reply on the other hand is not what I say is a friendly one , and today sure seem like its "a off with the head day"

If you want to move toward the French theme and eventually move up as you can afford the big price tag stuff, I would concentrate on a rather small curved leg if possible. Paint white. Or go with any table and a great table cloth all the way to the floor. French love fabrics.

I'm piping in with a suggestion that you do a small rectangular table because you have one Host chair which really doesn't fit as well at a round table. I like this one because it is simple, white, affordable and extends so you can get some of those great IKEA stackable chairs when you need more than 4 chairs. I would carry your Marie Antoinette feel with the chandy.

So... you could do quite an eye catching wallpaper on the tall back wall, gold curtains, chandelier... and perhaps change the shelves in the opening for glass ones and find pastel coloured glass to display on that...

I know this sounds crazy, but I'd go with a modern table to contrast the ornate details on those chairs. I love the Saarinen tulip table. The chairs are white, so they've been modernized somewhat, but I don't like matchy matchy and I think mixing modern with traditional brings an interesting twist to the overall look. If you keep it all the same color, you'll end up with a unified look without being too matchy matchy in style.

I wish I had found this website before! I loved all the ideas. As Astraea said it seems that I can use just about any table I like, and looking at all those pictures you posted I would say I really like the idea of a white round one. I think I'll go for that! Thanks a lot guys.

I agree with another poster that a table with white Queen Anne or French provincial legs and a black-painted top would look great with your chairs. I do not know about your choices of fabric for curtains and/or shades, but toile fabric paired with checks and/or plaids is part of country French décor. If you want a more formal look, go with damask or brocade curtains in a sparkling white or a pastel. Also, nothing says "French" like white Austrian shades under the draperies.
