Flowering shrub advice

last modified: 8 years ago

The pic shows the back of my property. Over the weekend I dug out 7 unsightly, overgrown forsythia that took up the spaces between the evergreens. I am looking for ideas for flowering shrubs to take their place. We like oakleaf hydrangea and viburnum. We are also thinking an ornamental tree such as a royal raindrops crabapple. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I'm just getting my feet wet in gardening and landscaping. The area has morning shade and full sun from 11am thru 6pm and I'm in zone 5a.
