First is Clematis armandii in early March (completely done now). Currently, montanas and macropetalas are in full bloom but most LFH's just have large buds still :-) However, some of the buds are really big so I suspect I will see flowering on mine in just another week or so, if temps hold - we have quite cool springs here.

Guernsey Cream is back! This is an immature bloom (the petals should be rounded and overlapping) because I had to move it late last year and it's still sulking a bit. But I stressed the whole winter over it, so I'm happy to see it!

I go out every morning with the dogs and it takes me two cups of tea to get through the garden. There is SO much to exclaim over this time of year!

Our steelers , I enjoy doing the same with my coffee ! There is so much beauty to be thankful for. I especially love hearing the birds in the morning too and the farm on the hill

Lisa .. that's what it was tagged from at lowes and lord knows a ton of theirs are mislabeled!! I actually just bought two different ones that had the choice of 2 names each for the same ones . You wouldn't offend me at all ! ;)

Floral, I love how your Montana is growing up the tree.

I am not a big fan of any of the LFH's but did grow Belle of Woking in my old garden, probably because my mom gave it to me :-)) I did like the beautiful double flowers in the first bloom flush and the subtle, silvery blue coloring. The second bloom flush produced few, if any, doubles and the color seems to have faded to an almost gray coloring, which I really didn't care for.

totoro, you might also want to seek out Clematis cirrhosa, as it is also evergreen (really nice glossy foliage) but bloomed for me on and off from late September through early spring. And even produced a few flowers in summer!! Cute, nodding cup-shaped flowers, usually a creamy color with dark freckles or spotting.

Gardengal, thanks so much for the rec. I like the look of the bell shaped flowers of cirrhosa so much. Does it need full sun? I have an afternoon sun spot or a morning sun spot.

Finally type 3 season has just started in Mid Atlantic! Very happy :-). This year we really didn't have spring till the end of April here (March and April were unseasonably cold), but those tough guys/gals are catching up...
