Dividing kimberly to rejuvenate

Hello, I have 2 kimberleys that are looking quite sad after a long winter indoors. They are both in 3 gal pots and quite root bound. I am planning on dividing them for outdoor planters and to sink in ground for the summer. Any tips on how to divide the roots, what type of soil I should use, etc? My plan currently is to saw them into quarters and to remove some of roots. TIA
