Clay IS soil (one of the three major components of soil)....it just tends to hold a lot of water :-) Can you do some simple perc tests to see how well/fast your soil drains? Generally, sloped areas offer pretty decent drainage just by virtue of the elevation. If it drains well in a reasonably short time frame, then go ahead and plant. If not, you may need to construct a berm or raised bed to accommodate these bulbs.

Thank You for the info! I am new to gardening, but I love it :) The yard seems to drain just fine, we have had a lot of rain and I never see standing water. I checked out the perc test link and I will give that a shot before I put them in the ground. Thanks to you they will hopefully be in the ground this week :)
