Very, very sorry to say,Taj Mahal makes no sense with deep red brick. Soapstone counter tops, on the other hand, make perfect sense with brick, both sharing a casual and very organic feel, the matte, soft, powdery top a nice contrast to the rough of brick. A simple and plain soft white counter top makes sense with a brick wall. A soft white and simple subway tile makes sense with Taj Mahal. A pale glass subway with Taj. But not in combination with brick, I'm afraid. I can't see your flooring well in the photo......ceramic tile? .......and all elements should make sense with that as well. Either get rid of the brick, or get rid of the Taj would be my advice. Or you are going to find yourself painting every inch of that brick wall, adding more brick for remaining splash, and painting that too. WAH.

You have too many ideas/materials going on, You are undoubtedly committed, with tops already cut . Pick a soft white for cabinets, and buy lots of it. Paint the brick....as I don't think you are going to be happy camper when you see those tops installed.

LOL!! I feel your pain. I agree with Jan I'd paint the brick wall.

Hopefully, a pro will come in with some paint ideas for cabinets, brick wall, and backsplash.

It won't be hard to paint the wall. It's just a small section that is exposed. But I will still have to listen to my husband say "I told you so." He never wanted or liked the brick wall. It's beautiful on the other side. LOL

Honey, get the paint. Do the cabinetry and the brick wall in Ben Moore "Calming Creme, or even try "Simply White. ....the Calming Creme is warmer. The brick will disappear and become texture. The floor? Welllll it is what it is.( Not all pros are equal I guess, can't believe TWO suggested Taj ). ............... but when it goes in, don't panic. Buy paint. If this is the worst mistake you ever made in a life, it's a good life. Tell hubby to get over it. And sometimes you just have to trust your gut. : ) Your first instinct was the right one.

Lesson one here? Nothing "lives" in isolation. Nothing. No matter how much you love a single thing. All the parts make a whole for good, or otherwise.

PS........... A fabricator often cuts and polishes at the last moment. CALL.. If they haven't cut? Tell them STOP. : ) Today is Tuesday, maybe your install is Friday..... even Thursday. CALL. You may be able to stop it. They really don't want you miserable.

They already cut it. I have decided to paint the brick. Its not as dark as it appears in the pictures, but it is definitely red. I’m still excited and feel encouraged by the suggestions here. I’ll attach pics tomorrow evening after my counters are installed.

May I ask, is the brick real? Since it is on the side of your island, my guess it is not. I think painting it will be a good choice. Good luck.

It is real. It is Old St. Louis. It is the same brick that I have on the outside and my kitchen floor. The pictures don't do it justice. It's really beautiful.

Once the counter is on, can you repost pictures before painting anything? Are you planning on changing any lighting? Will you paint the walls as well? Since it is real brick, it would be a shame to paint but I understand the need for cohesiveness. I feel your dilemma. I have made many similar decisions and while it has broken my heart at times, I often learned that I can live with the end result peacefully.

Yes, I will post pics after the install. I am not changing the lighting bc I have done all I can to make it as bright as possible in there. One of my reasons for doing this remodel is because it is so dark in my kitchen. I have under and upper cabinet lighting, the one fixture over the island, and one light above the sink. My electrician said it is impossible to install recessed (can) lighting elsewhere because there is a second story above the kitchen. I call BS on that, but he has told me this many times. How is it possible to put a man on the moon, but not possible to put recessed lighting in my kitchen? We were young when we built this house and had no clue about these things when we were having the plans drawn. I would change so many things......

An easy and cost-effective alternative for your backsplash that
is changeable over time, I might recommend an adhesive tile approach where you
aren't skimping on quality and it's something you can trim down and install

SSP9633, I call BS on the canned lighting as well. There are number of brands that can be installed on a retro basis that are very thin, are approved for insulated areas and provide good dimmable LED lighting. For instance, check out the company by the name of LOTUS. Each light will have its own tranformer and are full dimmable and come in a good bright 3000K. Less than 2 inches of space needed.

Tastes change, items become obsolete and technology improves. Who would have thought 10 years ago that our homes could virtually be "smart" for everything. Don't beat yourself up if the decisions you made while you were young are different from the ones you would make today.
