cable wiring path?

our home cable service is not working well. we got new X1 cable box and it wont work due to poor signal. tech is coming out today to check line strength. should a "good" signal be able to go thru 3-4 connectors to box location?

we have a grounding lug outside house. code says so. than the cable goes thru an outside splitter as 1 leg goes in house and 1 leg wraps around exterior to 2nd entry point. lug and splitter are in plastic enclosure on house exterior. all connectors have been taken apart and inspected. in service panel area there is a splitter for 1/living room and 2/kitchen. east/west layout. gotta do it.

so, grounding lug/splitter(outside) than on to (splitter (inside) and on to box

cant be made simpler?

just remembered we removed the ground lug when we added the outside splitter as the splitter has a ground screw.

They need to be good quality splitters, Comcast will likely replace them for you if they dont meet their specs. There’s a list of some on this page that Comcast uses. The cheapies you can normally buy in stores wont work for your needs. And the more splitters inline, the more the signal will get degraded, especially the cheapies. The cable guy can also test your cables as well to make sure they’re up to snuff.

the tech put the ground lug back on. when there is a grounded splitter 6" away. why not just ground the splitter?

anyways, he said our cable from street will not work with their X1 box. and probably the wiring in the house too. so we have the older legacy box back now.

long story. older legacy box would freeze on hbo.

i went to store. got x1 box. it kept reprogramming itself daily.

customer service said weak signal?

i went to store and traded the x1 box for older legacy box. dead.

tech came out. said cable was issue and we had bad box???

got different legacy box

If the ground lug is code, then thats what he needs to use. He doesnt have options. The x1 box requires a stronger signal than the legacy boxes and your cable doesnt have the specs to pass enough of a signal for the x1.

Will comcast rewire to the house for you, or do you need to pay for it?

i have all buried cable. tech rewired my setup. Ran new rg11 from street to back tap and ran a new lead to living room. Signal at street is 15 and it was 0 at tap. now it is 6-7 at house. Old cable was rg6. He said i am good for using X1 box now
