If you paint that back wall a brighter color... It would make that space more exciting.

First and foremost replace the light fixture, maybe like a ceiling mounted drum shade fixture. Add a statement area rug and some larger artwork.

Quick fix....a brightly colored entry way area rug...A larger, rectangular (upright) pic with bright colors on wall at base of stairs.

I would research stairs idea on this site. Just thought of something. What if you would get rid of all the wood railing and substitute it with a glass one. It would make it look bigger. Do you need storage for coats?

you could ad a bench or something like this and some pictures , those that you already have are too far apart and too small,where the first one is get something long or even a mirror .

The entry floor cover it with wood panels that would match the wood stairs. Yes carpet has to go. It is easy to do yourself & not expensive.

I don't know how to download pictures but I just clicked on the top ideabooks and put stairs and is amazing how many ideas. The choice will be your taste. Good luck

I just saw one that you could put drawers and make a whole storage under it.

I tried to add more pictures but it's not working. LOVE the drawers idea and I love the wood panels on the floor. Problem is that tile goes right into my kitchen. I looked at some pics and of course all the stairs I love are wood. I wonder if I paint them white and do a runner if that would work.

If you're looking to add spice to an area without a huge price tag, we suggest adding an accent-colored accessory that contrasts with the rest of the room. This may be a floor runner, a wreath on the door, or even adding some bright flowers (fresh or fake) to the table you have in the hallway. The accessor(ies) you choose, to add the most flair, should have a rather ornate design--flat colors without detail fall, well, flat. Pictures here won't work due to the lack of enough wall space. We we also suggest trying to move the table to the other side of the hallway and then adding a medium-sized picture to the opposite wall. Remember: don't overwhelm your space with large objects; instead, make a statement using a contrasting accessory or runner!

About the floor you're right I forgot about the connection with the kitchen floor. Jayme had a good idea about the rug.

What is the style of the areas off the foyer or what style do you want to move your house such as traditional, contemporary, etc ? How handy are you at DIY or do you have a budget?

Definitely replace that boob light. I would also paint the stairwell, perhaps a rich chocolate color, and hang a bright piece of art. Then add a runner with some colors from the art for a bit of pop.

Remove all the accessories in the stairwell and foyer. Pick a neutral color strip you love that won't clash with your carpet and do some colorblocking. Paint the lightest color from the strip on the ceiling throughout the area. Use the darkest color on the wall that gets some light. That might be the left hallway wall that gets reflected light from the window in the breakfast area. You might remove that valance so even more light will penetrate the foyer. Put a middle color on the wall going up the stairs and the two colors on either side of it for the downstairs stairwell wall and the wall where the table is now. If there are no other color choices left on the card, use the ceiling color again for the area just around the door. When you furnish it again, put the demi-lune table on the stairwell side of the entry. Find a vertical mirror that is 75% the width of the table and hang it 4" above the table. The wall where you now have the table and art is way too small for them - overhang and all, so try the art opposite the stairs on the side of the hallway you paint darker. You might try and find a small seat/bench/chair that could sit at the narrow wall with a piece of art above it. Be sure there is plenty of wall all around the art though. Add a colorful runner down the hall to the breakfast area and a new semi-flush drum light fixture in the foyer with a matching pendant one over the breakfast table. Make sure the runner/rug makes you feel good, even if it is in a "kids" style!

The rug isn't doing much ,about if you added a larger one in the middle.

(My son was looking over my shoulder and said, 'hey that looks almost exactly like our hallway.' LOL) And decoenthusiaste, I love your paint suggestions, as well as the light fixture and rug image you shared. I feel like I have some focus now.
